Superintendent's Message
Hello LPOSD Families,
One of my favorite times of year is coming up in March – we will be holding student-led conferences! Even more exciting, we have expanded conferences to include 7th & 8th grade students, along with all students at Clark Fork Jr-Sr High School. Sandpoint Middle School will hold student-led conferences beginning at 3:30 pm on Thursday, March 13, and finish midday on Friday. Other schools will have conferences all day on Friday, March 14.
Watching students take responsibility for sharing their academic and behavioral progress with their parents is truly rewarding. Not only does it build confidence, but it allows students to realistically assess their strengths, while setting goals for the remainder of the school year. You will hear directly from them about what they love and what they believe are challenges. It was always a joy to hear from my own kids as they led the conferences. Please join us in continuing to make the student-led conferences a highlight for the students and note the date on your calendar.
What are the benefits of student-led conferences?
Student Benefits

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership, bwm

Discuss Solutions to Rising Levels of Anxiety and Depression Among Youth
Please plan on attending the district's informative parent education forum March 18 at 5:30 pm. The district will lead an exploration of the influential book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Caused an Epidemic of Mental Illness. Presenters will delve into the dangers of social media, the role of cellphones in the classroom (or not) and much more. Copies of the book will be awarded as door prizes. Free dinner and childcare will be provided.
SHS Adds New Leadership Elective
Sandpoint High School submitted paperwork last month to officially establish an Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) unit. “A lot of our staff — Mr. Olmstead, our counselors, the middle school — helped us bring JROTC to Sandpoint, and I want to thank them,” said SHS Principal Jacki Crossingham. “We’re grateful to have another program here that will help our students succeed.”
One Trusted Adult ensures students have healthy relationships with school staff and feel supported. The goal is to prevent bullying, mental health issues and to promote positive self-worth. Students work with their teachers and counselors to identify a trusted adult at school. Students are surveyed multiple times per year.
Academic Data Highlights
At last month's School Board meeting, Director of Elementary Education Andra Murray and Director of Secondary Education Casey McLaughlin discussed the excellent academic progress happening across the district.
