Raider Pride Night at Glenbard South is tonight

Raider Pride Night at Glenbard South is tonight: Friday, September 11. All CCSD 89 students are invited to attend the football games to cheer on the Raiders. Students should wear their school spiritwear, school colors or GBS colors for free admission to the game! The varsity game starts at 7:00 p.m.; if CCSD 89 students want to be a part of the cheer squad on the field before the game, they should meet in the north end zone starting at 6:30 p.m. View event flyer

Reminder: Please review important guidelines from the Glenbard South Athletic Department for elementary and middle school students and families at Raiders games. Thank you for your assistance in making these events safe for all students.

Students will participate in BESS screener starting next week

Starting 9/14, students in third through eighth grades will participate in the Behavioral and Emotional Screening System, commonly known as BESS. BESS is not a tool for making a diagnosis, and there is no grade associated with it. BESS will give the school data about how your child internalizes feelings, self-regulates, and establishes good relationships. This data will be paired with in-class observations to help track student growth within the school year and from year to year. If the BESS screener shows any immediate concern for your student’s emotional health, a social worker will reach out to you by phone.

Full details about this screening were sent in an earlier email. If you have any questions or do not want your student to participate in BESS, please contact principal Dawn McCray as soon as possible.

Reminder: District policy on cell phones and personal devices during school day

Per CCSD 89 policy, cell phones and other personal electronic devices must remain out of sight and may not be used during the school day. While recent state legislation mandating this takes effect in 2027–28, our district policy is already active. Devices must be put away throughout the instructional day unless an approved exception is documented with the district. This policy helps to minimize distractions, disruptions and privacy concerns. Read full FAQs for parents and students

If your child uses their phone to manage a medical condition or for an approved academic reason, families should complete the CCSD 89 Student Use of Personal Technology Waiver on an annual basis to request an exemption. Completed forms should be returned to the main office.

Reminder: Using Verkada system for all building visitors

Our school uses the Verkada visitor management system for all individuals entering the building and for signing students in and out during the school day. It is an important process for keeping our students safe.

What you need to know:

  • All adults must bring a valid photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, or passport).

  • You will check in using an iPad in the school’s lobby.

  • Please allow an extra 5 minutes before your scheduled start time for this check-in process.

Fee waivers for school fees and school lunch program

The district uses two separate processes to determine eligibility for a waiver of school fees and for the free/reduced lunch program.

The district’s fee waiver application is available on our website at www.ccsd89.org/feewaiver or under the Board of Education tab, policy 4:140-E1 Application for Fee Waiver. The forms can be filled out and submitted with your income-verification documents directly to the district office (22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn), attention Courtney Czerwinski.

If you have more than one child in the district, you may submit one application for free/reduced lunch and another application for waiver of fees. Both applications can be submitted at the same time with the necessary documentation to avoid any delay in processing.

If you have any questions regarding the National School Lunch Program application or fee waiver application, please contact Courtney Czerwinski at (630) 469-8900, ext. 3519 or cczerwinski@ccsd89.org.

Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations.
