Benton Weekly Update

Congratulations to Coach Estes and our Cross Country Team for successfully defending our Championship in the NLM Middle School Cross Country Tournament last week. Benton had 18 students who earned individual medals and all members of the team ran strong to earn 1st Place. Congratulations!

Our Flag Football and Volleyball Teams are practicing this week and a series of scrimmage games at various middle schools in the district starts on 10/8; see the schedule posted below for more information, dates, and locations.

The Back to School Dance was a success last Friday. Thanks to Benton ASB and WEB for sponsoring such a fun event. There were contests, games, a selfie booth, and more!

This Friday marks the end of the 1st Quarter. Progress Reports will be sent out the following week, and Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up the week of 10/13. During Parent Conference Week, students are on a minimum day schedule and dismissed at 1:15. Teachers will be scheduling conference appointments at 10 minute intervals from 1:15-3:00pm during that week. But you don't need to wait for conference week to reach out to your student's teachers; you can email them any time you have questions or concerns about your student's progress. Have you set up your PowerSchool Parent Portal account to send you weekly emails with your student's current grades and attendance? That's a great way to stay current on how your child is doing in school.

Please note that there is no school on Monday, October 6th!

Please note the times and locations of the different activities. The hours vary from one activity to another. All students must sign in each day for attendance using the QR code.

Students will attend periods 1A – 4A on Wednesday. This Wednesday, like all Wednesdays, dismissal is at 1:45pm.

The first meeting of the Benton School Site Council (SSC) will be on Thursday, October 2 at 3:30pm in the Benton Conference Room.

Saturday School will be on 10/4 from 8:00am-12:15pm. Breakfast and lunch available, students can make up an absence by attending Saturday School, get caught up on schoolwork, and have fun. There is no school on Monday, October 6th and the campus is closed. Students will return on Tuesday, 10/7 which is a B Day.

Leading up to the NLM Middle Schools Sports Tournament on 11/12 at JGHS, there will be a series of games held at different middle schools in the district. Bus transportation will be provided to all players, cheer, photographers, scorekeepers. Games start when all players arrive, approximately 3:15pm.

11/5 Benton vs. Los Alisos at Los Alisos MS

11/12 Championship at John Glenn High School

You are able to schedule a conference with your student's teacher(s) during this week. We have early dismissal EVERY day at 1:15. Teachers are scheduling conferences at 10 minute intervals from 1:15-3:00pm.

6th Grade Science Camp departs from Benton on Monday, 10/20 and returns to Benton on Friday, 10/24.

7th Grade Science Campers meet at Harbor Beach Cruises in Long Beach at 8am on Wednesday, 10/22. Parents pick up 7th Graders in Long Beach on Friday, 10/24.

Parents, please help us by checking your student's outfit before they leave for school. If students are out of dress code, the students will be asked to change into P.E. clothes or a loaner shirt or shorts.

The PTSA is a huge support to students and Benton's programs, and we hope all families choose to join, support, and get involved at Benton. Join the Benton PTSA online at this link or by scanning the QR code below.

As you can see below, we have A Days and B Days. Students have periods 1A-4A on A Days, every Monday and Thursday, and periods 5B-8B on B Days, every Tuesday and Friday. On Wednesdays, we alternate between A Days and B Days.
