St Anthony's School News

Week 7 - Thursday 12th June 2025
St Anthony's School community works collaboratively to teach and live the values of Christ. While respecting tradition, and to meet the demands of a rapidly changing society, it strives to educate our children to their full potential.
Principal's Message
As we move well into winter and reach Week 7 of the term, the cooler mornings and shorter days are certainly making their presence felt. In this season of slower pace and reflection, we are reminded of the importance of rest, wellness, and caring for one another—both physically and spiritually.
This week is particularly special for our school community as we celebrate the Feast Day of St Anthony—our patron saint—on Friday, 13th June. St Anthony is known for his deep faith, powerful preaching, and compassion for the poor and vulnerable. His example continues to guide and inspire our mission as a Catholic school. The values he lived—generosity, humility, and love—are ones we aim to nurture in our students each day. We look forward to celebrating together as a community, and we invite all families to join us for the special Feast Day Mass on Friday, as well as the Mass and procession on Sunday.
St Anthony’s Feast Day Procession and Mass
This Sunday, 15th June, we celebrate the Feast Day of our patron saint, St Anthony. All families are warmly invited to join us for Mass at 11:00am, followed by a special procession at 2:00pm. We strongly encourage families to bring their children along to take part in this beautiful tradition. Students attending the procession are invited to wear their formal school uniform and will be able to enjoy a free dress day on Monday in recognition of their participation.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to our Year 6 students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. It was a joyous and reverent celebration of faith, and we are very proud of the way our students prepared for and embraced this special step in their spiritual journey. A sincere thank you to our Year 6 teachers for their dedication and thoughtful preparation in guiding the students through this important milestone.
Family Night
We are excited to be hosting our annual Family Night on Wednesday of Week 9, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. It promises to be a fun and engaging evening for our school community. Thank you to our dedicated staff for planning and preparing the evening’s activities, and to our P&F for kindly organising the sausage sizzle. If any families would like to support future P&F events, please contact El Chappell—we always welcome more helping hands!
Laudato Si’ Week
This week, we are marking Laudato Si’ Week, an opportunity to reflect on Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home. The week reminds us of our shared responsibility to look after creation and to live sustainably, both as individuals and as a community. Through class discussions and school activities, students are being encouraged to consider the ways in which they can be stewards of the Earth.
First Holy Communion
In preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, we invite parents and caregivers to attend one of the Adult Catechesis sessions taking place next Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30pm. These sessions provide an overview of the significance of the Eucharist and support families in accompanying their children through this special Sacrament. The Commitment Masses for First Holy Communion candidates will be held next weekend—please check communications for Mass times.
Choir Performance
Our school choir will be performing at the parish in the coming week, sharing their beautiful voices with the wider community. We are incredibly proud of the students for their enthusiasm and commitment, and we thank Mrs Alymore for her ongoing work with the choir. Her dedication and passion for music make these wonderful opportunities possible.
In Closing
Thank you for your continued support of our school and its many events and celebrations. We are grateful for the way our community comes together during these special moments. Let’s continue to support one another, stay connected, and keep the warmth of community alive during these winter weeks.
God Bless
Mike Barns
Acting Principal

School Code of Conduct
A reminder that every member of the St Anthony’s School community must behave in the manner described in our Code of Conduct.
Our Code is like the 40km/h speed limit outside our school in the mornings and afternoons. It defines behaviours that keep our students safe: at school, and elsewhere. Children and young people surrounded by adult and peer behaviours as outlined in the Code are more likely to recognise and choose healthy relationships for themselves.
Conduct Statements
- You act safely and competently.
- You give priority to students’ safety and well-being in all your behaviour and decision making.
- You act in accordance with the values of the Gospel as defined in the Code of Ethical Conduct.
- You conduct yourself in accordance with laws, agreements, policies and standards relevant to your relationship with the school community.
- You respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of each member of the school community.
- You treat personal information about members of the school community as private and confidential.
- You give impartial, honest and accurate information about the education, safety and well-being of students.
- You support all members of the school community in making informed decisions about students.
- You promote and preserve the trust and privilege inherent in your relationship with all members of the school community.
- You maintain and build on the community’s trust and confidence in Catholic schools and the Church.
- You act reflectively and ethically.
- You allow students to have a voice in their education, safety and well-being
The Code describes the minimum requirements expected of all members of our community and that all in our community conduct themselves personally and professionally in a way that maintains public trust and confidence in our school and the Church. While mandatory language such as ‘must’, ‘shall’ and ‘will’ is not used throughout the Code, there is a presumption the conduct described is mandatory and therefore not optional.
Vision for Learning - Snapshots of our Early Childhood Charter
Children learn through their interactions with others and therefore collaborative learning experiences are essential.
Sport News
On Thursday 29th May, our Year 5 and 6 students participated in the Interschool Winter Carnival at Kingsway Sporting Complex. It was a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm and great competition across a variety of sports including AFL, soccer and netball. Despite a chilly start to the day, the students embraced the conditions and represented our school with outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork and resilience. We were proud to see them encouraging one another, showing respect to umpires and competitors, and giving their all in every game.
A special congratulations goes to our Girls’ AFL team who took out the tournament title for the second year in a row! Their undefeated run and exceptional effort on the field were a testament to their teamwork, skill and determination. Thank you to the staff, parent helpers and supporters who made the day possible.
Yours in sport
Nicki Francis
