zoom_out_map

Piedmont Anti-Racism and Diversity Committee and the City of Piedmont invite you to the 28th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Monday, January 20 from 11:00 to 12:15 at the Alan Harvey Theater.

This year's program will feature:

  • A keynote by Ericka Huggins, an educator, leading Black Panther Party member, former political prisoner, human rights advocate, and poet

  • Performances by the Oakland Youth Chorus Chamber Singers and Destiny Arts Junior Dance Company

  • Fourth Annual Art and Writing Showcase

  • ... and more!

In a speech in March 1966, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called on people to never feel comfortable with any form of segregation, tyranny, or supremacy.

“I never intend to adjust myself to segregation and discrimination. I never intend to become adjusted to religious bigotry. I never intend to adjust myself to economic conditions that will take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few.”

This is an in-person program, co-sponsored by PADC and the City of Piedmont.

WASC Parent/Family Survey—We Need Your Input! WASC Parent/Family Survey—We Need Your Input!

open_in_new zoom_out_map

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the highest quality education for our students, we are asking for your participation in the WASC Parent/Family Survey.

How to Take the Survey
The survey will only take about 15 minutes of your time and can be completed online using this link: WASC Parent/Family Survey.

What is WASC?
WASC stands for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, an organization that accredits schools to ensure they meet rigorous academic and operational standards. Accreditation is an essential process that validates the quality of education we provide and helps us continuously improve our school.

Why is Your Input Important?
Your voice as a parent or guardian is vital to our success. The WASC survey is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, experiences, and suggestions. The feedback we gather will help us identify our strengths and areas for growth, ensuring that we meet the needs of all our students and families.

The survey will remain open until January 31, 2025.

All responses are confidential, and your honest feedback is greatly appreciated.

Attendance Policy Review Attendance Policy Review

zoom_out_map

Regular attendance and classroom participation are essential to the educational process at MHS. Missing class presentations, discussions, lectures, demonstrations and laboratories can be detrimental to student achievement, grades, credit accumulation and the progress of the class itself.

Reporting and Excusing an Absence

When a student is absent, it is required that the parent/guardian either phone the Attendance Office recorder (510-594-2889) or send a note explaining the reason for the absence. If an absence is cleared by phone, it is not necessary to follow up with a note. Only the signatures of the parent(s)/guardian(s) on the student emergency card are permitted on notes. Please provide the following information: first and last name of the student, name of parent, date of absence, the specific classes missed, and the reason for the absence. Parents/Guardians must excuse their student’s absence within three days of the time they return. If an absence is not cleared within that time, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Students are not permitted to excuse themselves on the recorder or by note. Students who miss three or more days of school in succession must present a doctor’s note, if the absences are due to illness.

What’s at Stake for Piedmont Schools? Bridging the Budget Gap What’s at Stake for Piedmont Schools? Bridging the Budget Gap

zoom_out_map

Despite the passage of Measure P, rising costs have left the Piedmont Unified School District facing difficult financial decisions. Last year’s budget reductions—resulting in larger class sizes and reduced library hours—are already being felt. Without community support through the Giving Campaign, further cuts may jeopardize vital programs and the quality of education. To date, 50% of PUSD parents have contributed to the Giving Campaign, and these donations, added to those of the broader community, total $3 million for our schools.

The need for immediate community action is urgent. The Giving Campaign is working toward a goal of $4 million to continue to help PUSD meet its obligations. Every contribution helps bridge the gap and preserve PUSD’s excellence. Together, we can ensure Piedmont schools thrive for future generations.

For more information or to donate, please visit www.piedmontedfoundation.org/donate.

Millennium High School is receiving more than $78,000 to support instruction, counseling, and community building.
