A Letter From Principal McGee
Dear Wolf Pack Families,
October is an exciting time in our school year! As the leaves begin to change and the days get a little shorter, our students continue to learn, grow, and make great progress both inside and outside the classroom.
We are excited to have tutoring and math and reading intervention opportunities underway. These supports are designed to meet students where they are, strengthen foundational skills, and help every student feel confident and successful in their learning. We appreciate the partnership of our families as we encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities and continue putting forth their best effort.
Our fall sports season is also beginning to wrap up. We are proud of the dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship our student-athletes have demonstrated throughout the season. Thank you to our coaches, families, and community members who have supported our teams and encouraged our students along the way.
At the same time, we are already looking ahead to winter sports tryouts. We encourage students who are interested in participating to watch for announcements and make sure they are aware of tryout dates, requirements, and expectations. Athletics provide our students with wonderful opportunities to build confidence, develop friendships, and learn the value of commitment and teamwork.
As we move further into the school year, we want to thank our entire school community for your continued support. Our students thrive when school and home work together, and we are grateful for the many ways our families and community partners contribute to their success.
Thank you for being an important part of our middle school community. We look forward to a productive and successful October!
With appreciation,
Jamal T. McGee
Principal

English Language Arts Spotlight
6th Grade -In ELA we just finished exploring narratives and poetry that centered on the theme of growing up. They analyzed different perspectives of narrators who encounter an event or a series of events that force them to mature in some way. Students considered the question of what the idea of growing up means for characters. Students considered point of view, theme, and the impact of specific words and phrases on the passages as a whole. Our new STEM Unit will focus on some of these same skills, mostly using Informational Texts.
7th Grade –
Things are getting a little mysterious in 7th grade as we explore Creatures & Legends! In this unit, we will explore a variety of stories, poems, and informational texts featuring “creatures” of all kinds—from fictional werewolves and Frankenstein’s creature to real-life sharks and fascinating creatures of the deep.
As students read, they’ll become stronger, more thoughtful readers by learning how to support their ideas with evidence from the text, examine different perspectives, and pay close attention to the words and phrases authors use to make their writing powerful and engaging.
And the best part? Students will put their learning into action! Working with classmates, they will create and record an original radio drama to share with the class.
8th Grade -
In ELA, we have had a great start to the year with our novel analysis of The Outsiders. Next, we will begin our county mini-unit, Against All Odds, where students will read a variety of short texts while strengthening and mastering key ELA standards, including citing textual evidence, identifying and tracking themes, and using context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words. Alongside classroom instruction, students will use Renaissance A-Z and Membean for individualized reading and vocabulary practice based on their current skill levels. Please check in with your student regularly to ensure they are logging in and actively working in both programs each day. Consistent practice will help students build the skills and confidence they need for success in 8th grade English.
ENGLISH 1- This year, English 1 students will read a variety of novels while studying author’s craft to strengthen and apply NC Reading Standards. Alongside classroom instruction, students will use Renaissance A-Z, Membean, and NoRedInk to receive individualized practice in reading, vocabulary, grammar, and writing based on their current skill levels. Please check in with your student regularly to ensure they are logging into and actively working in all three programs each day. Consistent practice in these programs will help students build the skills and confidence needed for success in English 1.
