Congratulations!
We want to take a moment to congratulate our Mountain Lions for the awesome work they have been doing. We have a schoolwide positive behavior plan that focuses on our PAWS school rules. Students and classes can earn tokens and PAWS awards for positive behaviors. Part of this plan is working toward schoolwide goals and rewards. Students have been doing some great things this year and have already earned a magician assembly, a donut dance-off day, and gaga ball. They are now working toward a popcorn & movie event. We want to congratulate them them for all their hard work and dedication to making Mountain View a great place to learn!
Updated Behavior Management/Discipline Plan
While we have much to celebrate with positive behaviors, we have also had some persistent negative behaviors we have been working with. Our behavior committee has worked to create a more consistent response and better data to help us be more proactive in how we address these concerns. It will also ensure there is frequent communication with parents when their student is involved in negative behaviors. Finally, it provides consistent interventions and consequences to support students. This will be implemented beginning January 7, 2025, so we want to preview what it will look like for you.
These are our school rules (PAWS):
This flowchart gives a brief overview of what we consider minor vs. major incidents and the steps we will take to address student behaviors (the QR codes only work for district employees). One of the steps in addressing behaviors is to submit a referral in SWIS. SWIS is a tool that tracks behavior incidents and provides data to help us be proactive (such as where behaviors are occurring, which days are impacted most, etc.):
When a student is involved in minor behavior incidents, teachers will use the following form to document that behavior. Teachers will send a copy of this form to parents after each incident. We are hopeful this will help you as parents be more involved in addressing minor behaviors we are seeing at school. It will also help you know what is coming next with each additional incident.
First incident: educational conversation with teacher and implementation of intervention
Second incident: watch redirection presentation during recess (this is a 10-minute presentation focused on our school rules and why they are important).
Third incident: PAWSitive step referral to counselor where students will complete a Skillstreaming lesson with the counselor or our behavior coaches during lunch.
Fourth incident: conference with parents and student and referral to office.
If you have any questions about this process, please reach out!
End of Term 2/Parent Teacher Conferences
We will let you know as soon as conference sign-ups are available.

Dine to Donate is an opportunity for you to have some delicious food and support the school at the same time! On Dine to Donate nights, specific businesses donate a portion of their sales to Mountain View. Our last Dine to Donate was Westside Pizza. By mentioning Mountain View Elementary when ordering, Westside donated 30% of their sales that night to our school.
Our next Dine to Donate is January 8th at Arbys. Look for more information about the specific location when we get back to school on January 6th. Thanks for supporting our school!
