Pennsbury welcomed Amy Lena, Pennsylvania’s Deputy Secretary for the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, on Thursday, October 22, for classroom visits and conversations with district educators.

Lena observed a math class at Edgewood Elementary School and an English class at Charles Boehm Middle School before participating in roundtable discussions with teachers and administrators about Pennsylvania’s mathematics and reading/language arts standards. The visit provided an opportunity for Pennsbury educators to share classroom perspectives and discuss the standards that guide teaching and learning.

The Pennsbury community came together on Saturday, October 17, for the 21st Annual Pennsbury Marching Band Festival, a US Bands event celebrating the talent, dedication, and spirit of marching band students from across the region!

This year’s festival welcomed Newark High School, Ridley High School, Wissahickon High School, Council Rock North High School, Abington High School, Upper Darby High School, Great Valley High School, Quakertown Community High School, and Kutztown University, whose performance was a special highlight of the evening! Of course, our own Pennsbury Long Orange Line proudly took the field in exhibition to represent our district.

The festival was a tremendous success, thanks to the support of Pennsbury administration, the Pennsbury Instrumental Music Boosters, and the many student and parent volunteers who worked together to make the event possible. It was wonderful to see our community come together to support music education and celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of these outstanding student musicians.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this annual tradition such a memorable evening! Please wish the Long Orange Line luck as they head into State Championships at Downingtown East on Saturday, October 31 and National Championships Sunday, November 4!

Seventh- and eighth-grade students in Señorita Pietras’s classes at Pennwood Middle School are exploring the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world through research and hands-on activities.

Each student selected a Spanish-speaking country and investigated its traditions, food, music, history, and daily life. The project helped students deepen their cultural understanding and appreciate the diversity found across these countries.

By making learning interactive and meaningful, the project sparked enthusiasm and curiosity, with many students inspired to someday visit the countries they researched!

Beautiful weather and a shared purpose brought the Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School community together on Friday, October 23, for its annual Kids Walking for Kids event. Parents lined up to watch as students took part in a school tradition centered on supporting children and families facing health challenges.

The event encourages students to learn about health issues and treatments affecting their peers while showing compassion and support through a schoolwide walk. It also raises money for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the ER Scholarship, extending the impact of a day devoted to caring for others.

Together, the students rehearsed 'Tis the Season, one of the selections the Middle School Orchestras are preparing for its upcoming Winter Concert.

This exciting musical experience gave our eighth graders the opportunity to play alongside high school musicians, experience the PHS orchestra program firsthand, and meet their future orchestra director, Mrs. Felicia Hebenstreit! It was a wonderful way to build connections, celebrate their musical growth, and get excited about the next step in their musical journey at Pennsbury High School.

A special thank-you to our middle school orchestra directors, Mr. Nick Terramani, Ms. Christina Dobson, and Mrs. Lisa Chippendale, for helping make this meaningful experience possible. We look forward to welcoming these talented musicians to PHS next year!

On October 16 at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary, the third graders in Mrs. Bria/Ms. Rumbelow’s class joined their Buddies in Mrs. Baccari’s kindergarten class for their annual autumn activity. Each kindergarten student was given a pumpkin, generously donated by the Morrisville Giant supermarket. The third graders guided their younger friends as they weighed, measured, and carefully compared and contrasted their pumpkins.

Together, they made predictions about whether their pumpkins would sink or float, testing their ideas with excitement and laughter. After recording their observations and drawing detailed pictures of their pumpkins, the kindergarteners proudly took their special pumpkins home to share with their families. In the end, Mrs. Baccari surprised each third grade student with a pumpkin of their own to take home! It was a fun-filled day of learning, teamwork, and autumn joy!

Pennwood students in Mrs. Kirsh's Social Studies collaborated with the Gifted Support teacher on a research project exploring how early humans evolved and adapted to their environments over time. Using reading selections, guiding questions, and a podcast, students investigated early human species, their physical characteristics, survival skills, and the role of climate in human evolution. To bring their learning to life, students created life-sized portraits of an assigned early hominid alongside an imagined future hominid, using evidence and creative thinking to consider how humans might continue to adapt to our changing environment.

Pennsbury School District is excited to launch the Pennsbury Arts Hall of Fame, a new initiative celebrating the talented alumni, educators, and community members who have helped build Pennsbury’s proud tradition of excellence in the arts.

The Hall of Fame will recognize individuals who have made meaningful contributions in visual art, instrumental music, vocal music, theatre, and other areas of the arts, while also giving today’s students the opportunity to learn from the accomplishments of those who came before them.

“The Pennsbury Arts Hall of Fame will honor the incredible talent that has emerged from our schools and pay tribute to the educators and community members who have shaped our arts programs,” Superintendent Dr. Thomas Smith said. “It’s a way to preserve our history while inspiring the next generation of artists and performers.”

Nominations are now open for the inaugural class and will be accepted through April 1, 2027. Eligible nominees include Pennsbury High School graduates who have demonstrated exceptional achievement or leadership in the arts, as well as former faculty members, administrators, community members, and others who have made a lasting impact on Pennsbury’s arts community.

Anyone in the Pennsbury community — including alumni, current or former staff members, students, and community members — may submit a nomination. The first class of inductees will be announced in Fall 2027 and honored at a formal induction ceremony and reception. Inductees will also be recognized in a permanent Arts Hall of Fame display outside Keller Hall at Pennsbury High School and on the District website.

Pennsbury School District uses Safe Arrival to track and verify student absences. Here are three simple steps families can take to make sure absences are reported and important notifications are received:

1. Report Absences Through the SchoolMessenger App
Parents and guardians can report student absences directly through Safe Arrival in the SchoolMessenger App. Reporting an absence in advance lets the school know your child is safe and accounted for. Download the SchoolMessenger Home (SM Home) app for free in the App Store or Google Play.

2. Save the Safe Arrival Phone Number
If your child is marked absent and the absence has not been reported, Safe Arrival will automatically contact you by phone, email, and text message (if you have opted in).

Safe Arrival calls come from 866-318-3517, not the District’s main phone number. We recommend saving this number in your contacts so you recognize the call and it is not mistaken for spam.

3. Opt In to District Text Messages
To receive text notifications about student absences, you must opt in to Pennsbury School District text messages.

Simply text Y or YES to 67587 from the mobile phone number you have on file with the District.

By opting in, you will also receive other important District text messages, including emergency notifications, transportation notifications, and weather-related alerts.

Not sure which mobile number is on file? Contact the main office at your child’s school to confirm or update your information.

More information on attendance and Safe Arrival can be found on our website.

The Pennsbury School District Social Media Policy has been updated to reflect the following:

Policy 816 allows for District operated social media pages to post student full names when appropriate. Account-holders should only post student full names in instances where it is mutually beneficial for the student and the school district and does not compromise the safety and well-being of the student. Examples of appropriate instances for posting full names of students include but are not limited to, athletic competitions, co-curricular activities (concerts, musicals, drama, etc.), academic awards, and/or other publicly available recognitions (ex: publication about a student in local media, etc.). For instances involving elementary school students, account holders must obtain permission from the superintendent or designee prior to posting a student's full name.

If you do not want your child featured in any social media or media outreach on behalf of the Pennsbury School District, please complete this opt-out form. Please note, this form must be submitted each school year.
