Notes from Our Nurses

ECC Families!
Spring is finally here! Warmer weather means more outdoor play, blooming flowers, and fun activities. It also means it’s a great time to review healthy habits that keep our students safe and feeling their best.
Spring Seasonal Allergies:
Spring flowers and trees can cause sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny noses for some children. These are common signs of seasonal allergies.
Helpful tips for families:
- Change clothes after playing outside
- Bathe or shower before bedtime to remove pollen
- Keep windows closed on high pollen days
- Encourage frequent handwashing and avoid rubbing eyes
- If your child takes allergy medicine, please give it at home
If you are unsure whether your child has allergies or a cold, contact your child’s pediatrician.
Outdoor & Playground Safety
Children will be spending more time outside during recess and after school.
Please remember:
- Send children with a hat or visor on sunny days
- Apply sunscreen before school (SPF 30 or higher is recommended)
- Wear closed-toe shoes for safe play on the playground
- Pack your child with a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated
- Teach children not to touch bees or unfamiliar insects
Sunscreen Reminder
Even on cloudy days, UV rays can affect skin. Please apply sunscreen to your child before arriving at school, especially on warm sunny days when classes may go outside.
Areas often forgotten:
- Ears
- Back of the neck
- Nose
- Arms and legs
Earth Day Health Tips (April 22)
Earth Day is a wonderful reminder to take care of our planet and our bodies!
You can celebrate Earth Day with your child by:
- Spending time outdoors walking, playing, or exploring nature
- Drinking plenty of water instead of sugary drinks
- Teaching children to recycle and throw trash away properly
- Washing hands after playing outside or gardening
- Packing healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables
Healthy kids help make a healthy planet!
A Note from the School Nurses:
Healthy habits at home and school help students learn, grow, and enjoy the spring season safely. If you have any health concerns about your child, please feel free to contact the school nurses.
Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, and happy spring!

April is Abilities Awareness Month and MLL Advocacy Month
Abilities Awareness Month is an opportunity to promote inclusion, understanding by highlighting the many ways individuals learn, communicate, and experience their communities.
To support this initiative, the calendar above is filled with activities for the month. The calendar includes spirit days, daily trivia to build awareness and spark meaningful conversations, facts that highlight different abilities and promote inclusivity, and reflection and discussion. While many of these are classroom-only, please note that there are a number of themed dress up days including 4/2, 4/10, 4/16, 4/17, 4/21, 4/24, and 4/27.
The goal of this calendar is to celebrate everyone’s unique personality and contributions to our school community.
Multilingual Learner (MLL) Advocacy Month is dedicated to celebrating the assets, achievements, and potential of students who speak more than one language. We will be doing theme days the week of 4/27. See the calendar below for more information-a flyer will be coming home later this month!
