PSSA
Our third, fourth and fifth grade students will be participating in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) during late April and early May. Please see the dates below for when subject specific testing will take place. The PSSA is made up of three separate tests which assess to what degree our students have become proficient in English Language Arts (reading and writing), Mathematics, and Science. Our test sessions will occur in the morning of each day. All testing takes approximately one to two hours each day. *Make-ups will take place throughout the assessment window and/or during the week of May 6- May 10.
The PSSA exams are examples of assessments that provide achievement and growth data that assist schools in developing educational plans in support of successful school experiences for students. The tests will be scored by the State and results are expected to be returned to the school district during the summer. Parent reports, which identify the results for your child and how to assist him/her in improving, are expected to be available in the fall of the upcoming school year. We ask that during this assessment period, you encourage your child to do his/her best.
For additional information regarding this year’s assessment, please review the 2024 Skippack PSSA Family Letter, PSSA Electronic Device Information & PSSA FAQ document.
PSSA Testing Dates
ELA (Grades 3-5): April 22nd, 24th, and 26th
Math (Grades 3-5): April 29th, 30th
Science (Grade 4 only): May 1st and May 2nd

Class Meetings
The Pennsylvania Systems of School Assessment (PSSA) are quickly approaching. Mrs. Venza has been taking this opportunity to visit with each of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms to talk about healthy routines for learning. We are stressing that these are great strategies to practice all of the time to help us be healthy and ready to learn in general - not just at PSSA time.
Students are encouraged to:
- Engage and participate in their classes every day.
- Ask their teachers questions if they don't understand something.
- Read every day.
- Eat healthy, well balanced meals.
- Exercise and move their bodies every day.
- Get at least 8-10 hours of sleep each night.
- Use coping strategies if they become overwhelmed, unfocused, or worried.
- Ask for support if they need it.
Take Your Child To Work Day
Take Your Child to Work Day is scheduled for Thursday, April 25th - Educational trip forms will be accepted for this day if you plan to take your child with you to work that day. Please complete the PVSD trip form found here.
5th Grade Happy Helpers
Members of our 5th Grade Happy Helpers Service Club, Mrs. Strano, and Mrs. Wells visited with residents at Greenfield Senior Living to plant succulents in cute flower pots that the students painted.
Our students were polite, kind, and helpful during the entire experience! Way to go!
The Bergman Museum at Ursinus College - Family Night
The Berman Museum at Ursinus is offering a family night for Skippack and Schwenksville families on May 8th. Families will explore the outdoors sculptures, scavenger hunt and an activity from 6-7:30 PM.
Cell Phones and Smart Watches
From the Elementary Handbook:
During the school day, cell phones must be off and away, stored in a student’s cubby or book bag, unless they are necessary for medical reasons. When a smartwatch is deemed to be a distraction to the learning environment, it must be removed and stored in the cubby or book bag. The goal of these rules is to avoid distractions and maximize learning.
All devices should remain in students' backpacks while on the bus.
Welcome Wednesday Greeter
Mrs. O’Sullivan was our Welcome Wednesday greeter this Wednesday! She greeted students as they arrived to school. Mrs. O’Sullivan serves as our district’s K-12 STEM Curriculum Supervisor.
Thank you for starting the morning with us, Mrs. O'Sullivan!
Safety Drills/Standard Response Protocols
Ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and our school community is a top priority.
It is important that students learn how to be safe in various situations. Each month we conduct fire drills (evacuation drills), in late fall we practiced all of our standard response protocols. During the spring we will continue reviewing and practicing all of our drills--Hold, Secure, Shelter, Lockdown, and Evacuation safety drills. Student friendly and age-appropriate language is used. For more information about our emergency preparedness, please visit https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard- Response-Protocol.html

Nominations for the Hall of Fame are now open! Nominations will be accepted through May 1, 2024. We are excited to return this tradition here in Perkiomen Valley. We ask that you please follow the criteria on the website to make your nominations. Please click here to nominate.
New Garden Coming to MSE Spring 2024!
The Green Team and Loss Group at PV East are co-sponsoring a certified butterfly garden and wildlife habitat that was designed by Master Gardeners at Penn State Extension. It will be located at the front of PV East by the main office and include 3 benches and a picnic table. This garden is yet to be named by the students but will be a place to memorialize and honor people and events through a personalized brick pathway that will run through the middle of the garden. You can help us fundraise by purchasing a brick for the pathway. We are requesting all brick purchases by Saturday, May 4th.

Please email Dr. Clune sclune@pvsd.org directly if you want to sponsor the picnic table ($1,400) or a bench ($800) or be listed as a sponsor ($1000) on the sign.
