Weekly Update
Third Grade '24/25
It was wonderful seeing so many of you Saturday at the Walk-a-thon! My family and I had a blast getting our steps in and having fun with friends. We appreciated getting out of the heat afterwards, as I'm sure all of you did, too!
Please note this Thursday is a minimum day with pick up at 12:15 pm and this Friday there is no school for students.
Warmly,
Sara
🍎 Curriculum
Math - Mathematicians have been participating in differentiated groups to tackle time. Students who need practice in telling time to the nearest minute having been working on this, and other students, who have already mastered this skill, have been working on their elapsed time. All students have been having fun with a math mystery. Small groups will continue to work on subtraction and addition if needed.
Reading - Readers took their end-of-unit assessment in summarizing, author's craft, character studies, and predictions. We will continue practicing these skills the entire year. We are now in our mystery unit, having fun reading our mentor text The Great Cake Mystery by Alexander McCall. Students are reading mysteries of their own and finding the detectives, the mystery, and the suspects.
Writing - Writers started their personal narratives by brainstorming important people, places, and things in their lives. They selected key memories and narrowed them down to "seed" moments.
Cursive - We learned how to write cursive "k" and "j" this week.
Social Studies - Geographers completed several rounds of peer review this week and are now ready to present! We will have several students present each day this week.
Other - Children had three periods of PE this week and computer science class with Mrs. Schroeder. We had a Starting Arts lesson this week and library. Students completed an art project on woodland animals and practiced making overlapping leaf art.
Students engaging in peer review and revision! ☝🏻
📌 Reminders
- If you have not yet sent in your field trip donation check, there's still time! Please send it in when you can. We appreciate it! :)
- Scholastic books can be ordered at any time! We earn free books for our classroom with any order. Visit our class page to order: https://orders.scholastic.com/NHJ8Y
- Please help your child remember to complete and pack their homework each night. In third grade it is developmentally appropriate that they will need reminders and guidance to get this done and build strong habits.
