Dear Leighton Families,

There was an incredible amount of activity, celebration, and fun packed into the final two weeks of the school year at Leighton Elementary! Our entire school community came together to send our fifth graders off with a wonderful clap-out celebration, which you can see highlighted below. While this newsletter is packed with photos and information from our end-of-year events—including our amazing Field Day—it only scratches the surface of the experiences our students shared in these final weeks.

As you scroll through, you will find helpful information regarding next year's supply lists, as well as important reminders for medical forms and Final Forms. We have also included some key dates for the start of the upcoming school year, but for now, our main focus is on enjoying a well-deserved summer break. We will send out more detailed back-to-school communications in the months ahead.

On behalf of myself and the entire Leighton staff, thank you for a successful school year filled with fun, growth, and achievement. We hope your summer is filled with sunshine, laughter, and wonderful family memories. We already look forward to welcoming our current third and fourth graders back in August as our fourth and fifth graders!

5th Grade Clap-Out 5th Grade Clap-Out

The staff, student body, and parents all lined up to "Clap-Out" our amazing 5th graders on the last day of school! It was awesome to see our 5th graders get to see their 3rd and 4th grade teachers one last time as they said farewell to their 5th grade teachers and Leighton. We are so proud of their growth and accomplishments while at Leighton. We know the class of 2033 will do amazing things at Harmon and beyond!

4th Quarter Greenmen Bus Award Winners 4th Quarter Greenmen Bus Award Winners

These students have gone above and beyond positive behavior expectations on our school bus transportation during the fourth quarter! The daily bus commute is a vital part of the school day, as it sets the tone for how our students start and end their school experience.

Last week, we celebrated our fourth-quarter Greenmen Bus Award winners for each grade level. Winners were recognized during the morning announcements and invited to the front office to receive their rewards. We are incredibly proud of these students for demonstrating such exemplary behavior and leadership on the bus!

Leighton Luau Field Day Fun! Leighton Luau Field Day Fun!

We couldn't have asked for better weather for our Leighton Luau Field Day! Students had a blast participating in 14 different games and activities. Some of the biggest highlights included the tug-of-war, parachute games, and various relays. A huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers for helping the day run smoothly, and an extra special shout-out to PE teacher Mrs. Scaffide for planning such a fantastic event!

Orchestra and General Music Performances Orchestra and General Music Performances

Our fourth and fifth-grade orchestra students gave their final performances of the year last week, and they certainly did not disappoint! Led by Mr. Nabring, the students put on a spectacular show. Additionally, Dr. Iriarte's music class capped off the year with an incredibly entertaining "Pirate Musical." Outstanding job, everyone—we are so proud of your hard work!

5th Grade Rocket Launches 5th Grade Rocket Launches

Throughout the month of May, our fifth graders have been busy applying their critical thinking, problem-solving, and STEM skills to design and engineer their very own rockets! The hard work paid off this week as students successfully launched their creations high into the sky and watched them safely parachute back to Earth. This was a fantastic culminating project for their fifth-grade Inquiry class!

Wishtree Novel Activity Wishtree Novel Activity

In the final weeks, Mrs. Chartier’s class brought their literature studies to life on the Leighton trail. Students reflected on their goals and wishes for our community, writing them on decomposable paper and tying them to the trees. This reflective outdoor activity was a wonderful showcase of our district competencies: empathy, resilience, and balance.

Performance for our Preschoolers Performance for our Preschoolers

Mrs. Skeels’ and Mrs. Anderson’s classes recently created wonderful performances based on well-known children's books for our preschool students. By acting out the stories, our fifth graders truly made the characters come to life! This was a fantastic opportunity for our older students to practice leadership through interactive read-alouds, while creating an engaging experience for our youngest learners.
