February 2026 Newsletter
A Message from Mr. Hartman
Greetings! Although February is a relatively short month, there are still a few events taking place at BES that I’d like to draw your attention to. During the first part of February we will be holding our second round of Parent-Teacher Conferences. This is a great opportunity for you to have in-depth discussions about your child’s progress academically, socially and emotionally. This is also a chance to talk about a plan for continued growth for your child over the course of the second half of the school year.
Our next Scholastic Book Fair is also scheduled for this month. Students will have multiple opportunities to visit our Book Fair during the school day and during Parent-Teacher conferences. Once again, we’ll have quite a selection of books for kids to choose from.
Lastly, preparations for Summer School have officially begun. The comprehensive summer school course schedule will be available for students starting in early April, at which time registration will begin. The summer session this year will run from June 10th – July 16th, with classes taking place on Monday – Thursday of each week.
Be well,
Josh Hartman - Principal

In February, classroom Guidance lessons will continue to be built around the Wisconsin Social Emotional Learning Competencies, specifically centered on the areas of Emotional Development (understanding and manage one’s emotions), Self-Concept (develop positive self-identity and recognize self as a learner) and Social Competence (establish and maintain positive relationships). We will focus our attention on relationships with peers, particularly discussing healthy social interactions and boundaries, as well as how to establish and maintain them. Learning how to identify possible choices and actions in given situations will also be a priority. 😊 We will revisit the definition of bullying and the S.T.A.N.D. anti-bullying strategies to help ensure our school and community are welcoming and safe places to be. 🏫 Our Wayfinder lessons will help teach these concepts and emphasize: 🌟purpose (your decisions and interactions with the world are guided by a deep connection to your values), 🌟self-awareness (you understand yourself on many levels, from how you function to what nourishes and sustains you), 🌟adaptability (you are willing to try again when you make mistakes and are comfortable navigating uncertain situations with flexibility and openness), 🌟empathy (you are in tune with the feelings and needs of others and willing to act for a common good), 🌟collaboration (you are a relationship-builder who actively partners with others and facilitates belonging efforts across communities), and 🌟agency (you understand the value of your voice and seek opportunities to support and advance your communities).
Please check out the Bloomer Elementary Students Services website! 🤩 Go to www.bloomer.k12.wi.us and click on Menu, then click on Student Services to be taken to the main page. Once there, click on the link for Elementary Student Services. Please explore the tabs for information and resources. Students may also have fun navigating Ms. T.’s Virtual Counseling Classroom! 😊 The Counseling department offers many terrific resources for parents covering a wide range of topics. Some of these resources are available for parents to keep and others are available for checkout. Featured resources this month include: Caring For Your Grieving Child: Engaging Activities For Dealing With Loss & Transition by Martha Wakenshaw, MA, After You Lose Someone You Love-Advice and Insight From The Diaries Of Three Kids Who’ve Been There As Told By Amy, Allie & David Dennison and Helping Your Depressed Child by Martha Underwood Barnard, PhD.
We also welcome Mr. Dane Jusula to Bloomer Elementary School for the remainder of the school year as a School Counseling intern. Please see the introductory letter linked here Mr. J. Introduction.docx and get to know Mr. J.! We are happy to have him here at BES! 🤗
In February, we celebrate Valentine’s Day 💌 and President’s Day 🦅. These occasions allow for many engaging and fun learning experiences your family can share together! Leave love notes in your children’s shoes, lunch boxes or on the bathroom mirror, make heart shaped pancakes or simply say, “I love you because…” more often (write a new reason on a paper heart and stick it on your kiddos’ bedroom doors each morning). Find some fun facts about the President who served as our 7th President if your child is 7, or our 4th President if your kiddo is in 4th grade. Happy Valentine’s Day! 🥰 “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” ~Mother Teresa 💗🖤🧡🤍
P.S. February 2nd is also Groundhog Day (there doesn’t seem to be an emoji for a groundhog!). Whether you’re “team 6 more weeks of winter” ❄️ or “team early spring,” 🌷may you find newness and beauty in each day regardless of what Puxatawney Phil sees.
