October 2, 2026
The Principal's Paw Print
๐๐พ Happy Friday, FMS Families!
It was another great week at Fugett! I continue to feel personally happy and connected to this community and humbled by the opportunity to serve as your Principal.
This week, our students completed benchmarks to help us understand their progress and continue strengthening High Impact Teaching & Learning. Our 8th graders also had an exciting opportunity to learn, explore, and connect at the Renaissance Faire on Thursday!
Thank you, families, for your continued partnership and support of our students and school community. One Pack. One Purpose. One Fugett. ๐พ
Thank you for your trust and continued partnership.
Cheers to weekend ahead,
Principal Lewis
The FMS Spirit Wear Store is now OPEN! Grab your gear and show off your school spirit by representing your sport, activity, or FMS pride. Don't wait, the store closes at midnight on Monday, October 5th!
๐พ Learning in Action at Fugett
๐ฐ 8th Grade Renaissance Faire: Our 8th graders had a fantastic time at the Renaissance Faire! Students enjoyed a fun day of exploration, learning, and connection with classmates and staff. A great opportunity to build memories and strengthen our Strong & Connected Community! ๐พ
๐ถ Supportive School Culture
Our musicians continue to grow together! Mr. Celfoโs Orchestra and Mrs. Yagelโs Band were hard at work learning new content, developing their skills, and building confidence through music.
๐จ High Impact Teaching & Learning
6th grade artists with Mrs. Schneider used light tables to create mandalas, while 7th grade artists with Mrs. Haines created original designs inspired by Henri Matisse, incorporating organic and geometric shapes.
๐ High Impact Teaching & Learning
Students in Mrs. Ottingerโs 7th Grade Gifted Enrichment class explored the stock market, investments, and stock futures, connecting classroom learning to real world financial concepts.
โญ iCARE Town Hall: Integrity
During our first ICARE Town Hall, students explored the pillar of Integrity and discussed what it means to make positive choices, be honest, and do the right thing, even when no one is watching. Students reflected on integrity by writing what it means to them on paper strips, which were displayed as a visual reminder of our shared commitment to this important value.
Our 8th grade students also participated in a Legacy Project, where they reflected on the impact they want to leave at Fugett Middle School. Students shared thoughtful messages about the positive contributions, character, and example they hope to leave behind for future generations of Fugett students.
We are proud of our students for their engagement and look forward to continuing to build a strong culture of iCARE throughout the school year! ๐๐
๐October 2026 Staff Awards๐
Please join us in celebrating Mrs. Lauren Koepke, our October Staff Member of the Month, and Mrs. Shayna Abbott, our October FMS Values Award recipient! We are grateful for the leadership, care, and commitment Lauren and Shayna bring to Fugett each day. Congratulations! ๐พ
๐Mrs. Keopke is an iCARE leader and Teacher Coach who is known for her hard work, leadership, and commitment to helping students and teachers grow and succeed.
๐ Mrs. Abbott is a trusted teacher leader who consistently puts students first, values relationships, supports her colleagues, and advocates for the success of our students and teams.
๐ Learning Comes to Life at Fugett!
Our 8th grade scientists took their learning outside to create a human geologic timeline! Students worked together to represent the incredible span of Earthโs history and explore the major events that shaped our planet and life over time.
This engaging experience is a great example of High Impact Teaching & Learning at Fugett, where students collaborate, think critically, and apply their learning in meaningful ways. ๐พ
๐ IXL Mastery Challenge is Coming!
We are excited to announce our FMS IXL Mastery Challenge, running from October 5 through October 28! Students will have the opportunity to strengthen their Math and ELA skills while earning mastery on IXL recommendations.
This challenge is designed to support students' academic growth while recognizing their hard work and dedication. Students should focus on the recommended skills generated from the IXL Benchmark Assessments completed between September 22 and October 2. Families can view these recommendations by logging into their child's IXL, selecting Assessment, and reviewing their child's levels and recommended skills. Because students are working on skills tailored to their individual needs, the challenge focuses on mastery and growth, not grade level or academic level, allowing every class to compete on an equal playing field.
A skill is considered mastered when a student earns a 100 SmartScore. Every mastered skill counts toward the class total!
Students will be given time throughout the school day, including during class and homeroom, to work on their recommended skills. Families can support this challenge by encouraging students to practice at home, celebrating their progress, and helping them build strong learning habits.
The class with the most skills mastered by the end of the challenge will be recognized and celebrated!
๐ Challenge Dates: October 5 - October 28
๐ฏ Goal: Master as many recommended Math and ELA skills as possible by earning a 100 SmartScore
๐ Find Recommendations: Log into IXL โ Assessment โ View your child's levels and recommended skills
๐ Celebration: October 30 for the winning class
Thank you for partnering with us to make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun. Together, let's inspire our students to become confident, motivated learners and celebrate their growth! โจ
๐ Yellow Ribbon Week Recap
Fugett Middle School recently held a successful Yellow Ribbon Week focused on promoting mental health and suicide awareness. Students learned about the importance of supporting one another, recognizing when help is needed, and accessing available resources. Yellow ribbons and mental health information were distributed throughout the week to encourage awareness and connection.
Remember: Help is always available. If you or someone you know is struggling or experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, for free, confidential support 24/7.
Thank you for partnering with us to support the well-being of our students and school community. ๐
