Memorial Day Observances

Students from the Nauset Regional Middle School band and chorus proudly participated in the Memorial Day ceremonies held in Orleans and Brewster on Monday. Their contributions brought heartfelt music and meaningful student voice to these important community events.

In Orleans, the chorus opened the ceremony at the Town Cove with a moving rendition of America the Beautiful, paying tribute to the men and women of the armed forces who serve at sea. Two trumpet players solemnly performed Taps as 8th-grade students cast a memorial bouquet into the water.

The band then led the procession—marching the honor guard, speakers, and attendees up the hill for the second portion of the ceremony, where they were acknowledged by two guest speakers. The chorus led the crowd in singing The Star-Spangled Banner, and the band performed again in tribute. The chorus even joined Andrew DeLory in singing Amazing Grace.

Later in Brewster, the band and chorus once again shared their musical talents, performing for a grateful audience that included many local veterans.

It was an honor for our students to participate in these meaningful ceremonies and to give back to the community and veterans through music and reflection.

Hello NRMS Families,

As you receive this newsletter, our 8th graders are wrapping up their trip to New York City where they have been since Wednesday. With this milestone now nearly complete, we turn the calendar on Monday to June and the final month of the school year. Ask any student (or staff) and they will let you know that means there are fewer than 20 school days remaining in this school year. Together - home and school - we need to help our students finish the year in a positive way. We are reminding students about continuing to complete assignments on time, cleaning out binders and lockers to search for missing work to be handed in, showing up on time every day with a fully charged Chromebook, and living up to the expectations that have been in place all year. It is easy at this time of year for students to start to check out and look ahead to summer. We are all excited about the summer months here on Cape Cod. And, we want to be sure that we do not check out too soon. We have so many wonderful events in June. You can review the complete list below.

Earlier this week, I met with the 6th and 7th graders who will serve as House Captains and Deputy Captains next year. I will meet with these student leaders each Wednesday during the Nauset Time block of the school day to help them be prepared to assist with the House Cup Olympics. On the afternoons of June 18, 22, and 23, we will have a number of fun, friendly competitions that will determine the winner of the coveted House Cup. Students will be encouraged to wear their House colors these days. It is going to be such a fun way to end the year.

Following the awarding of the House Cup, the winning House will go on a local field trip. We will have everyone complete the permission form so that all students are cleared to go on the trip even though ultimately only the students from the winning House will go.

Enjoy the weekend.
