Catholic Education Sunday and Week

October 19-25 2024

Catholic EducationSunday and WeekOctober 19-25 2024

Beginning in October 2024, Catholic Education Sunday and Catholic Education Week, traditionally held as separate observances, will merge into one unified event.

Catholic Education Sunday is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of November, while Catholic Education Week occurred in May this year, coinciding with World Catholic Education Day.

In a move to foster unity, these occasions will be amalgamated into a week-long festivity in the third week of October 2024.

The unified celebration will start with Catholic Education Sunday Masses on October 19, 2024, and culminate with the GrACE Summit on October 25, 2024, at St. Luke's Parish in Calgary.

Archbishop Richard Smith's Catholic Education Week Message - 2024

Please make sure to read and circulate the Bishops' Pastoral Letter for Catholic Education Week. The purpose of this letter is to foster dialogue and participation in the ongoing growth and influence of Catholic education throughout Alberta and beyond.

In the letter, the Bishops highlight the significance of this year's theme, "Testify! Share the Reason for your Hope." They call on everyone to embrace and actively embody this theme in daily life, underscoring unity, faith, and adherence to Catholic values, and urging us to forge a strong, supportive, faith-centered community.

Moreover, the Bishops underline the profound impact of Catholic education on our children and youth, shaping them into compassionate, responsible, and spiritually oriented individuals. They extend an invitation to all community members—students, parents, educators, and parishioners—to participate in this year's events and activities, to advance together on our spiritual journey.

As we embark on a new academic year, let the Bishops' message inspire us to commit to the theme with energy and commitment. By doing so, we can make a positive difference in our community and beyond, mirroring the light of Christ in our deeds.

Your continued support and dedication to the cause of Catholic education are highly valued. I look forward to working with you and witnessing the extraordinary accomplishments we will achieve this year.
