Community Spotlight: Tinsley & Chad Smith - A Parent's Journey with Dyslexia
This Dyslexia Awareness Month, we’re honored to highlight Tinsley & Chad Smith, dedicated parents of two children with dyslexia. Their journey—marked by discovery, advocacy, and resilience—reflects the challenges many families face.
Their advocacy reached a new milestone as they recently chaired Celebrate Dyslexia’s live podcast event at TPR, where they helped spotlight critical issues like the medical code gap and the importance of sharing personal stories to build awareness and drive change.
“From the beginning, Celebrate Dyslexia has walked alongside us,” they shared. “One of the most difficult realities we learned is that dyslexia doesn’t have a medical code. That means families like ours often pay out of pocket for essential evaluations and therapy.”
We truly believe our children bring something special to the classroom—perspective,
perseverance, and grit. In their short lives, they’ve already had to work harder than
most, and that effort creates a powerful ripple effect among their peers. It’s a kind of
diversity that enriches every learning environment.
Dyslexia affects 1 in 5 people. It’s not a measure of intelligence—it’s a difference in how the brain processes language. Thanks to parents like Tinsley and Chad, the conversation around dyslexia continues to grow louder and more impactful.

Choral Evensong - TODAY, October 19 at 4:30 p.m.
We begin this year’s Evensong Series with two heavy-lifters: the Evening Canticles in C major by Charles Villiers Stanford, and Mozart’s beautiful Laudate Dominum. These two composers represent the Irish Protestant and Austrian Catholic traditions. In addition, we include Jacob Arcadelt’s famous Ave Maria (Flemish composer), Jackson’s Preces & Responses (Anglo-American) and Leo Sowerby’s Voluntary on Song 46 (an American Pulitzer Prize composer.)
