Summit Road STEM Elementary
October 2025 SPARK Newsletter
Our SPARK is back!
Thank you to all of our families who joined us for Curriculum Night—we loved seeing so many of you engaged in your child’s learning journey and connecting with our staff. We are also proud to share that Summit Road STEM has officially been named a Purple Star School, recognizing our commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. In addition, our first round of Exemplars has been shared, celebrating students who are modeling what it means to be Safe, Patient, Accepting, Responsible, and Kind each day. We are off to a strong start, and it’s because of the partnership we share with you.
Did you know...
Summit Road STEM is proud to be part of the Ohio Code Scholar Program, an initiative from the Ohio Department of Education focused on preparing students with the coding, design, and problem-solving skills needed for the future. Through this program, we recently received new 3D printers, which are already being put to use in the Innovation Station as they design and build mini droids in Mrs. Meisel’s class. These droids will be built and programmed by our 5th grade students to complete exciting tasks, blending creativity, and connect with real-world technology. The entire project takes almost the entire school year!
While the Innovation Station is a hub for hands-on projects like this, innovative learning is happening all throughout the school day in general education classrooms, where students are challenged to think critically, solve problems, and design solutions.
Here are a few questions you can ask your child to SPARK a conversation:
- What problem did you solve in class this week?
- How did you use creativity or design thinking in your work?
- Can you tell me about a time you had to think of more than one solution to a challenge?
How can you partner with us?
The Summit Road STEM Elementary PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is a group of parents, caregivers, and staff who work together to support our school through events, volunteer efforts, and fundraising. The PTO helps create fun experiences for students, supports teachers, and builds a strong school community. You don’t need a lot of time to help—there are many simple ways to get involved, like donating items, helping at events, or sharing ideas. Every bit of support makes a difference. Click the link below to learn more and see how you can partner with the PTO.

Communication from Summit Road STEM Elementary:
We are using TalkingPoints as our main communication method. Parent/Guardians will be automatically enrolled with your phone number and e-mail addresses on file in the office.
It is very important that your phone number is updated so you can stay up to date with information from the building! To begin, TalkingPoints will automatically allow us to communicate with text messages to your phone. If you wish, you can download the TalkingPoints Parent app to your phone. This allows you to do more advanced features such as react to messages, RSVP to events, and more. Downloading an app is optional.
Any changes in phone number, e-mail address, or other important information should be communicated to the front office as soon as you can.
Change of addresses are required by Ohio Law, and should be communicated with our welcome center. Maggie in the Summit front office can help with this process.
Teachers send home a weekly newsletter with photos, upcoming events, and current happenings. Please be sure you are checking your child's newsletter! If you are not receiving Talking Point messages, please call the office.
Summit Road STEM Elementary 5th Annual Walk-a-thon Fundraiser:
Hello Summit Road Families and welcome to our 5th Annual Walkathon Fundraiser event! This is a super fun event for the whole school and an important fundraiser for Summit. We will raise money leading up to the actual event in September. We will have music and some giveaways to motivate us along the way. More information will be at our Meet the teacher Night.
Walk-a-thon donations are collected through our personalized webpage at 99Pledges, https://app.99pledges.com/fund/summitroad5. Our goal is to raise $10,000. You will receive an email from 99Pledges with a link to your student’s pledge page. Simply share your link with friends and family to make their flat rate donations. It's that simple! No keeping up with miles or laps, just one flat rate donation. If you don’t receive a link, you can search and find your student’s page by clicking the button below.
Purpose of Walk-a-thon
Funds raised from our Walkathon will be used to support our Environmental STEM focus by helping to update our Makerspace for students, purchase books, classroom supplies, and materials for our gardens, courtyard, and Ecolab, help cover the cost of transportation for field trips, purchase materials and resources for our Culinary and Ornithology Labs; and other special school events/activities. The more money we raise, the more we can support our students and STEM program at Summit! *If sponsors are unable to use the 99Pledges site, we will gladly accept cash, check, or money orders. Contact Mr. Jacobs with questions regarding the fundraiser.
