Message from Walker Administration
Dearest Walker Families,
As we wrap up another wonderful week at Walker, we want to share some exciting news and important upcoming dates.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all the volunteers and organizers who dedicated their time and effort to making our annual Veterans Day Ceremony such a meaningful and successful event. It was a beautiful tribute to those who have served our country, and we truly appreciate our community's support in honoring our Veterans.
We are excited to invite you to join your Walker Star for lunch during our special "Thankful for Families" Lunch Days! This is a wonderful opportunity to share a meal with your student and connect with the school community. While you are here, please take advantage of the chance to visit our Fall Book Fair in the library. It's a fantastic way to encourage reading and stock up on great books for the holidays!
RSVP Note: To help us expedite building access and ensure a smooth experience, please use the provided RSVP options to let us know if you plan to attend.
Looking Ahead: December Events
Please mark your calendars with our December events so you can plan ahead to participate as your schedule allows. Please see the December Events section of this newsletter.
We are genuinely thankful for all our wonderful Walker Families and your continued support of our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Michelle Baumann, Principal
Misty Young, Asst. Principal
Our next weekly newsletter will be sent after we return from the Thanksgiving Break.
HELP NEEDED
Playground Supervision Following Dismissal
Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for helping us ensure that Walker Elementary is a safe and welcoming place for all students.
District staff stop supervising students at dismissal. After students are released, parents and guardians are responsible for supervising your child. Please ensure your child follows the student code of conduct at all times.
Stay with your child if they play on school grounds after dismissal. Remind them to follow district rules and be respectful on school grounds at all times.
We remind students that The Walker Way is important all the time, not just during the school day - Take of Myself, Take Care of Others, Take Care of Walker.
Together, we can continue our strong partnership to model respect and responsibility for our students.
Your partnership is valued and appreciated.

Families in need of assistance can find helpful information and support through our district’s community resources. Please take a moment to visit the links below for up-to-date food resource links and local assistance options.

Attendance Matters!
Studies show that excessive absences can negatively impact a child's education, including the loss of teacher-led lessons, peer interactions, and academic achievement. While we do not want our students to attend school if they are sick, please help us make punctuality and daily attendance a priority for your Star/s regarding all other circumstances. Should you need to keep your child home for any reason, please click the button below to report an absence.
MISD School Safety
MISD School Safety
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty and staff.

After School Opportunities at Walker
Walker PTA
Message from Our PTA President, Megan Patterson
Welcome to Walker!
We are so excited for you and your family to be a part of the Walker Elementary community. The PTA Board is made up of veteran Walker parents, who are here to help you in any way we can. Our goal as a PTA is to promote the collaboration and engagement of families and our amazing staff for the education of our children. We love working together to help support and celebrate our Walker students.
Throughout the school year, we host a fundraiser, Stay & Play events, Family Spirit Nights, a Festival, Walk & Roll to School Days, class parties, Veteran’s Day celebration, and many other events. We also help the school fund Field Day activities, School Store, hospitality for teachers and staff, Walker student scholarships, Project Graduation, McKinney Education Foundation Scholarships and much more!
Our organization would not be what it is without our membership and volunteers. We would love to have you join the Walker Elementary PTA for the 2025-2026 school year. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about PTA or about the school.
Sincerely,
Megan Patterson

What does it mean to be a member of Walker PTA? It simply means you can vote at PTA meetings & the money you spend to join goes towards our campus. It does not put you on a volunteer list or require you to volunteer (although we do appreciate our volunteers!).
NOTE: A free Membership Toolkit account is required, & if you already have one, it will need to be updated for this school year before you proceed.

Volunteer Information
As a service to McKinney ISD students and families, the district provides the Community Folder for school related, non-school related, and non-profit organizations. Electronic communication has become standard and is preferred by many parents; the schools are sharing more and more information via email as a convenience to parents. This also cuts back on paper coming home in folders. Information posted and accepted must be youth-oriented and will be reviewed and approved by the Communications Department. Updates will be posted often, so we ask that you check back for the latest opportunities and information from our community.

Visitors & Volunteers
A valid state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. Please be prepared with your ID upon arrival. Photos of ID will not be accepted.
A background check is required each school year for people wanting to volunteer in McKinney ISD. This includes making copies, lunch duty coverage, classroom parties, field trips, and any other volunteering that takes place in our building or on our campus. We encourage you to complete your volunteer application as soon as possible to avoid any delay in the processing.
