Tawanka Times

Tawanka Times

A big THANK YOU goes out to the PTO for providing wonderful treats every day for the staff in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week May 3rd - 7th! Monday they provided water ice, Tuesday fresh coffee, Wednesday soft pretzels, Thursday a nice hot lunch, and Friday breakfast! What a wonderful way to celebrate and honor our teachers!

We also want to thank our PTO board members for all their hard work and dedication this year. The pandemic has not made things easy, but they came up with some great new virtual ideas for fundraising! We appreciate all you do! Thank you to all our Tawanka parents for their support of the PTO this year as well.

We loved to see everyone dressed up in their luau gear! Mrs. Neff walked around for a bit playing her ukulele. So much fun!

Under the Sea

As part of our Tawanka luau day, the teachers were challenged to decorate their classroom windows with an "Under the Sea" theme for a chance to win a popsicle party. Originally there was only going to be one winner, but the competition was so fierce there was a last minute executive decision made to choose a winner from each grade! Everyone did such an awesome job! Photos of the winning submissions are below. Congratulations to our winners!

Students and Staff had a Hawaiian blast on May 11th. The day was kicked off with a schoolwide virtual field trip to the Caribbean with Sharks For Kids (https://www.sharks4kids.com/).

Can you believe that sharks have 30,000 teeth?! The day concluded with a window decorating contest that that had a winner for each grade and a teacher photo shoot.

C106 had a lesson about kindness and friendship! One of our friends got a new pair of glasses so we all joined in on the fun.

We also had a discussion about doing things we don’t always want to do – like wear our glasses, or clean our rooms. Both are important and make us responsible Tawanka Eagles! We are always open to support our friends who are trying out new things!

PE with Mr. Wright PE with Mr. Wright

Tawanka students are enjoying some fun in the sun. They are exercising, while getting free vitamin D. Tawanka children are playing small-sided kickball games (1v1 Kickball and Kicker vs. All Kickball). They are practicing eye-foot coordination. They are also improving their fitness level by running around the bases, chasing the ball, and trying to get the kicker “out.”

Meet Ms. Houser

Hello! My name is Ms. Houser. I am the art teacher here at Tawanka! I am the lucky teacher that gets to make art everyday with so many awesome artist! The best thing about my job is coming in everyday and creating with my amazing students. My students are extremely innovative and teach me new things every class! For example, I now know how to dab! Hehe. This job is my dream and I am so lucky to be here at Tawanka.

Before Tawanka I taught at a charter school in Philadelphia for 3 years and prior to that a preschool for 5 years. I graduated from Kutztown University with a bachelors in Art Education. Currently, I am working on my masters in Art Education. I live with my fiancé Joe and my crazy dog Reiley in Warrington. Our new adventure is getting married in October. We are super exited to start our new journey.

Friendly Reminders..... Friendly Reminders.....

There will be no school on Monday 5/31/21. Happy Memorial Day !
Countdown to the Last Day!

Message from the Nurse

Water bottles: It is especially important to send your child(ren) in with a water bottle every day as the weather warms. There are faucets in the classrooms and two filling stations in the school for bottle refills. The water fountains are closed due to COVID Safety Plan.

Snacks: Please remember to send a snack in with your child daily as well. The nurses have been getting a lot of visits from hungry students lately. We need to strictly limit nurse visits to sick or injured students only. You may also want to consider sending in an extra snack or two to supplement your child's lunch if they are purchasing from the cafeteria. Students do not get a choice in their sides since this year they are bagged lunches, and may not like what is served. We think this may be contributing to hungry bellies.

Spare Clothing: It is a good idea to keep a spare set of clothing in your child's backpack, as accidents and spills happen from time to time. This is especially important for K-1 students.

Safety of all students and staff is a top priority at Tawanka, and so we have strict safety procedures in place. A reminder of the following:

Building Entry: All visitors must scan their driver's license or state issued ID at the kiosk in the front vestibule and wait for entry. This is required at every visit, or access will be denied.

Early Dismissals: Please notify the teacher if your child will be picked up early. If being picked up by someone other than a parent/guardian, please specify who will be picking up your child. Students will only be released to individuals listed on the emergency card, but the office must be notified prior to pick-up. Students must be signed out in the main office. Again, driver's license or state issued ID is required to pick up a student. Please schedule early dismissals no later then 2:30 to avoid afternoon dismissal traffic.
