Frequently Asked Questions for Austin Elementary:
Frequently Asked Questions
We have had questions that have been asked, and hope this will help with some of the answers:
1. It is my child's birthday, can I bring in something to celebrate?
Yes! You can either have your child bring in cupcakes and juice/water pouches, or you can take them to the front office for us to deliver to the classroom. The items must be store bought and sealed. Students in the class will have a small party at the end of the day before dismissal.
Pizzas are not allowed for birthday celebrations. Please do not have pizza delivered to the school.
Invitations to parties are allowed to passed out if the entire class is being invited. If not, please have your child pass them out outside of school. We don't want any hurt feelings.
2. Can I bring lunch or have lunch delivered for my child?
Unfortunately, we do not have enough office staff to deliver lunches.
3. Can I eat lunch with my child?
We are working on creating a schedule for families to come in and eat lunch with their child. Right now, the cafeteria size is our biggest issue. The cafeteria is small and we have no extra tables during our lunch time. Stay tuned for more information about this!
4. Is it too late to sign up for the before/after school program?
It is not too late! Please reach out to:
Ash Ayers for grades K-2: ashayers@gisd.org
Synethia Dorsey for grades 3-4: synethiadorsey@gisd.org
5. What time is my student considered absent from school?
Our official attendance time is 9:30am. If a student comes in after that time, they will be counted absent unless they come with a doctor's note. We do not accept students without a doctor's note after 9:30am.
6. What time is my child considered tardy to school?
The bell rings at 8:15am. If your child is not in school at that time, and they come between 8:15-9:30am, they are considered tardy and MUST be signed in at the front office.

We are a NATIONAL Showcase School--2 years in a row!
Howl out to our Austin staff! We have been given the honor of National Showcase School for Capturing Kids' Hearts! Students and staff both filled out surveys regarding school culture and climate, and you must earn high scores to receive this honor. In addition, we had two school visits where Capturing Kids' Hearts staff members came to talk to students and staff. This is a direct reflection of the great work our students and staff put in to make our campus amazing!
