State Assessments
State Assessments will be between March 31- April 17
Dear Parents,
As we approach state assessments, we want to remind you of the importance of consistent attendance and staying engaged in the classroom. These assessments are an opportunity for your child to demonstrate all the hard work they’ve put in throughout the year.
Being present and prepared plays a huge role in ensuring your child feels confident and ready. We encourage you to support your child in making sure they are here on time, well-rested, and ready to tackle the challenges ahead.
Thank you for your continued support!

Grade Level News
Kindergarten: Mrs. Hernandez and Mrs. Moore
We are excited to talk to all of you about the progress your student has made so far this school year at Parent-Teacher Conferences on February 4th and 5th.
We are continuing to work on knowing our letter names and sounds with automaticity so that reading words we don't know is not as difficult. We have also been practicing l-blends and some digraphs (sh, ch, th.) Make sure you are practicing sight words at home and listening to your student read their books.
We are continuing with adding and subtracting in math. This is a good time to use the resources we sent home earlier this year.

1st Grade: Mrs. Adame and Mrs. Fry
Time is passing quickly, and we are beginning to move into some new areas in First Grade. We are working on Learning our ones and tens in the Place Value which will help us to add and subtract to 40. Students are also going to be working with comparing two numbers to see the value of each number in the ones and tens column. Students can also work on adding and subtraction fact cards daily to help them.
In reading we are working on learning about text features that will help them comprehend the stories. The students are also working on writing a narrative story in which they will use temporal words as well as in sequential order. Students will use descriptive details about the events and apply some sense of closure to their story. Your child will also work on informational text and identify facts in a given story. In our Foundation Skills, students are decoding words, learning about compound words, Inflectional endings (es, ed, and ing), contractions, and r-controlled words. Thanks for listening to your child read every day for 15 – 20 minutes and working on their sight words. Your support really makes a difference!

2nd Grade: Mrs. Rosales and Ms. Solis
This month in second grade, we will be starting a new unit in Math that will allow us to learn about the foundations of multiplication and division through studying equal groups and repeated addition. We will be using manipulatives, arranging objects into arrays, and practicing more of our skip-counting skills, by 5’s, to prepare us for the upcoming unit on telling time with an analogue clock.
In Reading, we will be learning about the foundational skill called the final syllable _le. We will learn how to find the main topic of a nonfiction story, as well as a historical fiction story. We will focus mainly on finding supporting details in what we read to find a main topic and write about it! We will also be learning and using adjectives and adverbs in a sentence.
Please continue to read at home and practice math facts for 10-15 minutes every night.

3rd Grade: Mrs. Laskowsky, Miss Northcutt, and Mrs. Salmans
Dear 3rd-Grade Linn Family,
We LOVE our 3rd Graders! We look forward to conference time to share progress and results of our first KAP Interim and last quarter's learning goals.
Please add the date and time to your calendar for your conference. When you come to a conference, your student should attend to be part of the learning discussion. They need to understand that there is a “team” of people supporting their learning process and cheering them on!
We request that your student participate in daily physical activity and homework after school. Make sure they are stretching, exercising, completing chores, and helping siblings/friends. Please make sure they are back into their homework routine, and screen time is limited to Friday and Saturday evenings after responsibilities and chores are complete. Reading and practicing math facts is still a MUST! Having additional indoor time in the cold winter is great for being creative! For example, your student could create something from an empty cereal box, draw a picture with labels, or make a card or craft for someone to cheer them up.
Healthy and happy hearts are a reminder of Valentine’s Day. In 3rd-Grade, we will celebrate all the friendships we have made in class by having a friendship card exchange.
Students will receive a list of class names for the card exchange and do their Valentine's cards at home if they want to participate. If students are interested in creating a cardholder, save your empty cereal or shoe boxes. They are a great size to hold cards!
After our short activity celebrating friendships, we will eat a healthy snack. We will celebrate our knowledge of fractions by making a delicious recipe in class.
Please let us know what questions you have, and keep in contact with us on Parent Square.
Have a fabulous February!

4th Grade: Mrs. Castro and Mrs. Rolle
Dear 4th Grade Families,
We hope this message finds you well. As we begin the month of February, we are excited to share what your child will be learning in the classroom. We are also looking forward to visiting with you during Parent Teacher Conferences at the beginning of the month and partnering together to support your child’s growth and success.
ELA
During this month, we will begin Unit 3, Module B, where our focus will be on natural disasters. Students will explore different types of disasters and their impacts while strengthening their informative writing skills. For their writing assessment, students will have the exciting opportunity to create a news report about a natural disaster.
Math
We are wrapping up Module 5, which has focused on fractions. Next, we will transition into Module 6, where students will explore decimals and their relationship to fractions. This will help students build a deeper understanding of how these concepts connect.
Social Studies/Science
During the second part of this quarter, we will shift our focus to Social Studies. Students will learn about the Southwest and Southeast regions of the United States, exploring the geography, history, culture, and importance of these areas.
Weekly Homework Reminder
Weekly homework is an important part of helping students practice and strengthen their skills in both reading and math. Homework gives students extra opportunities to review what we are learning in class, build confidence, and develop responsibility.
We have noticed that many students are not completing homework consistently. Please encourage your child to complete their homework each week and return it on time. Your support at home makes a big difference in your child’s progress and success.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support.
Warmly,
The 4th Grade Team

February Physical Education Newsletter
American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge
February is an exciting and meaningful month in Physical Education! Our students will be participating in the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge, formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart. This nationwide program helps students learn lifelong heart-healthy habits while supporting an important cause.
Students in grades 2–5 will have the opportunity to raise money to support children who are unable to afford health care for heart-related conditions. This experience encourages empathy, generosity, and an understanding of how physical activity connects to overall health and wellness.
All students who participate in the Kids Heart Challenge will be invited to a Jump Rope Party on February 27th, where we will celebrate their efforts, teamwork, and commitment to helping others.
What Students Are Learning
Throughout the month, students will explore the importance of keeping their hearts healthy through regular physical activity. Lessons will focus on:
- How exercise strengthens the heart
- Understanding heart rate and how it changes with activity
- Why staying active is important for lifelong health
These discussions will help students make real-world connections between movement, fitness, and heart health.
Skill Focus: Jumping & Jump Rope Skills
In PE classes, students will work on developing key motor skills with an emphasis on jumping. Activities will include:
- Jumping with single jump ropes
- Working cooperatively with partner and team jump ropes
- Improving coordination, timing, balance, and endurance
These skills support overall physical development while keeping lessons fun, engaging, and active.
Thank you for supporting Physical Education and the Kids Heart Challenge. Together, we are helping students build healthy habits, strong hearts, and a spirit of giving that will last a lifetime!
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

As the days get bitterly cold, please prepare your students. We may have a day to go outside or a time they are waiting in line for you. There could be a delay on the bus. Please ensure your student is adequately covered with gloves, hats, and coats. We are no longer able to get coats for your student, but your student is loved, and we will look for help finding a coat in another way.
Please make sure your child stays home if they are ill, have a fever, or threw up. We have a few whose health can be compromised easily if they are around others who are sick.
If there is ever a way we can help, let us know when you have a need. We know of several community resources.
Our lessons have been about how students are alike and different. Then, we will work on Fairness, have a Kindness Week, and focus on Resilience and Perseverance. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your students.
