From your Principals
Eagles, being on time matters! Arriving to class promptly helps start each period focused and ready to learn, shows respect for teachers and classmates, and sets up for success throughout the day. We want every student to build strong habits that reflect accountability and pride in being part of the Skyline community.
We’ve noticed a high number of tardies happening during first hour, and we want to remind everyone how important it is to start the day strong. If mornings are a struggle, consider adjusting your routine-set your alarm a few minutes earlier, prepare your materials the night before, or plan to leave the house a little sooner. A small change can make a big difference in getting to class on time and starting your day with less stress.
Here’s a reminder of our Tardy Policy and what happens when tardies begin to add up:
-
Tier 1: 10 cumulative tardies – Skyline will mail a warning letter home.
-
Tier 2: 20 cumulative tardies – A second letter is mailed home and a discipline log entry is made.
-
Tier 3: 30 cumulative tardies – A third letter is mailed home, a second discipline log entry is made, and the student will serve a lunch detention. Continued tardiness may also impact teacher recommendations.
-
Tier 4: 45 cumulative tardies – A fourth letter is mailed home, a third discipline log entry is made, and the student will serve an after-school or lunch detention. Administration may also schedule a parent/guardian meeting.
Also, students, there are no passes allowed during the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of class. Please plan your breaks and hallway time accordingly.
Let’s continue to show up on time, ready to learn, and ready to soar together, Eagles!
Your Skyline Administration Team,
Casey Elmore, Andre Criswell, Terri Patterson, Delsie Sissoko and Lamanzer Williams

Celebrating Our Skysquad!
This week, we’re proud to celebrate our incredible Skysquad for leading a powerful Restorative Practices Assembly on Wednesday. Our student leaders did an outstanding job teaching their peers about the importance of repairing harm, building understanding, and maintaining a strong sense of community at Skyline. Through role plays, shared experiences, and open conversations, they modeled what it means to resolve conflict in healthy, respectful ways. We are so proud of their leadership and commitment to making Skyline a more connected and compassionate school community.

Halloween Costumes
Expectations Regarding Halloween Costumes
Participation in wearing Halloween costumes to school on, October 31st, is completely voluntary. Students who choose to wear costumes are more than welcome to do so, but all students must adhere to the following costume guidelines to ensure a fun and respectful day at SHS:
No Full Face Coverings: Costumes that completely cover a student’s face are not permitted. For safety and security, we need to be able to identify all students at all times.
No Weapons or Hazardous Items: Costumes should not include any objects, instruments or replicas that could cause harm or be mistaken for real weapons. Rights and Responsibilities applies at all times.
Appropriate Dress: Regular school dress expectation applies. This includes avoiding suggestive, provocative attire or wearing underwear as outerwear. Yes, this is high school, so let’s keep it appropriate!
No Mess or Spills: Avoid fake blood or any substances that may cause a mess or disrupt the learning environment.
Respectful Themes: Costumes should not promote illegal substances, violence, offensive themes or derogatory content. Be mindful of how your costume could be perceived.
Avoid Cultural Appropriation and Harmful Stereotypes: Please avoid costumes that appropriate or mock other cultures, races or identities. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment, and costumes that perpetuate harmful stereotypes or disrespect any group, including based on race, religion, gender or sexual orientation, will not be allowed.
Respect for Others: Be respectful of your peers and their costumes. Do not touch, insult or deface someone else’s costume. We are a diverse community, and it’s important to be considerate of all backgrounds and perspectives.
Thank you for helping us create a safe and enjoyable experience for all students. If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to reach out.
And the administration reserves the right to redirect or address any costumes that do not comply with these reasonable guidelines.

SAEBRS Screener-Oct. 29
In our efforts to support the well-being of all our students, Skyline High School will be administering a universal assessment of social, emotional & behavioral health to all students. Below is a disclosure statement with information about the screener. Please take a moment to read the information below. If you choose not to allow your student to participate, you may use the link below to opt-out.
STUDENT WELL-BEING SCREENER DISCLOSURE
Skyline staff care deeply about our students, and we want to check in with all students to assess how they are doing. To assist us in this effort, we administering a behavioral wellness screener to all of our students. The SAEBRS (The Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) is a brief and research-validated self-rating scale that is completed by students. This information helps us to understand the needs of all our students and to make effective plans at the whole school, class, and individual level.
A member of our screening & support team will follow up with any student whose scores indicate they may need additional support. This school year, Skyline High School will be administering the screener 2-3 times this year, during Skytime classes. If you would like additional information about this universal assessment and student supports we have at Skyline High School please reach out to your child's counselor
CONFIDENTIALITY STATEMENT
Results of this screener will only be reviewed by district mental health professionals and shared with appropriate staff and/or parents on a need-to-know basis. The screener is not being used to provide a diagnosis or to treat any mental health conditions, but rather as a guide to determine the current behavioral well-being of our student population.
OPT-OUT
If you have no objection to the screener, no further action is necessary, and your student will participate.
If you would prefer that your student NOT participate in this screening during this school year, please complete this form by Oct. 24. If you have multiple students at Skyline, please complete the survey for each student. You will receive a separate e-mail for each student. If you opted your student out of the survey during a previous school year, you will need to opt them out again for this school year.
Notes from Nurse Mary
Now that the school year is well underway, I’m following up on any missing medical paperwork.
AAPS requires updated medical forms each school year. If your student has a chronic condition like asthma or a food allergy, please have their healthcare provider complete the appropriate Asthma or Food Allergy Action Plan and send it to the school office or email it to me at delism@aaps.k12.mi.us.
If your student will self-carry emergency medication, your provider must note this on the action plan. No other AAPS forms are needed if you have an action plan, but please make sure a parent or guardian signs all forms before submitting.
For students who self-carry other medications (even over-the-counter ones like Tylenol, ibuprofen, Zyrtec, or Tums), please complete the AAPS Self-Administration/Carry Form.
Important: Students may not self-carry controlled substances (e.g., some ADHD medications). These must be brought in by an adult and stored in the school clinic. To do this, please complete the AAPS Medication Administration Form.
Let me know if you have any questions—thank you!

Skyline Theatre Presents: Leaving Iowa
The spark behind Leaving Iowa comes from being children of parents from the now dubbed "greatest generation." The story is a toast to their idealism and character and a little roast of their undying dedication to the classic family road trip. More specifically, it is the story of Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, who returns home and decides to finally take his father's ashes to his childhood home, as requested. But when Don discovers Grandma's house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper resting place for his father. This father-and-son road trip shifts smoothly from the present to Don's memories of the annual, torturous vacations of his childhood. Don's existential journey leads him to reconcile his past and present at the center of the United States. Leaving Iowa is a postcard to anyone who has ever found himself or herself driving alone on a road, revisiting fond memories of his or her youth. It originally premiered at the Purple Rose Theatre Company.

WISD Countywide CTE Millage
Did you know? Career Technical Education, or CTE, helps students learn by doing, and combines classroom learning with hands-on experiences and real-world skills. From PreK-12, students can explore their purpose, passion, and potential. Then they can connect to future-focused careers in high-wage, high-skill, in-demand pathways in our region like:
- Aviation and aerospace
- Automotive technology
- Computer science
- Construction trades
- Cybersecurity
- Entrepreneurship
- Environmental science
- Health sciences
- Robotics and engineering
If the CTE millage is approved in November, a countywide PreK-12 CTE model would expand access to both new and existing CTE programs and offer more opportunities to help prepare students for college, careers and beyond! Learn more at www.washtenawisd.org/ctemillage.
Skyline is a Closed Campus
No Food Deliveries During The School Day
To keep learning on track and our campus secure, students may not receive food deliveries (Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, etc.) at any time during the school day. Delivery drivers will be turned away. The office and staff will not accept, hold, or deliver food for students.
Why this rule matters
Safety: Unknown adults coming to campus create security risks.
Learning time: Deliveries disrupt classes and office operations.
Equity & order: One clear rule keeps expectations fair and consistent for everyone.
Closed campus reminder: Students may not leave school to get food during the day. If a student leaves class for food, they will be sent back to class and school discipline consequences may apply per the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. Students may bring lunch from home or use the cafeteria. Thank you for supporting a safe, focused learning environment.
School Safety is a Shared Responsibility
