Dear Tiger Community,

As we continue to navigate this school year, I want to take a moment to address a crucial topic: the mental health and well-being of our students.

We understand that the pressures of school, family life, and the world around us can be overwhelming for some of our young people. It's more important than ever that we as a community remain supportive, attentive, and proactive in addressing mental health needs. As parents, guardians, and educators, we must work together to ensure our students feel supported, heard, and understood.

At El Paso High, we are deeply committed to the well-being of every student. We offer a range of support services, including access to counselors, mental health resources, and peer support programs. Our team is here to assist students with any challenges they may be facing, whether academic, social, or emotional. We encourage all students to reach out for help when needed, and we ask that you, as parents, stay engaged with your child’s mental and emotional health as well.

However, it’s also important to remember that school is the best place for students to be—not just for academic growth but for their mental and emotional well-being too. Engaging with peers, participating in activities, and maintaining a routine are all key factors in fostering resilience and creating a sense of belonging. We know that school may not always feel easy, but being in school offers students a sense of normalcy and connection, and it’s one of the most supportive environments we can provide.

We encourage you to have open conversations with your children about how they’re feeling and to stay in touch with us if you notice any signs of distress. We are here for you and your family, and together, we can ensure that each student at El Paso High receives the support they need to succeed—both academically and personally.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students. We look forward to working together to create a safe and nurturing environment for all.

Warm regards,

Saturday School Saturday School

We are excited to offer a valuable opportunity for students to get the academic support they need to succeed. On Saturday, February 8th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, we will be hosting a Saturday School session focused on tutoring and TSI preparation.

Whether your student is struggling in a particular subject or is preparing for the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), this session provides a great chance to receive individualized support and targeted instruction. Our dedicated teachers and tutors will be available to work closely with students, providing the attention and resources they need to improve their skills and confidence.

We encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of taking advantage of this opportunity. Regular attendance in school and taking proactive steps to address academic challenges are crucial to their success, and Saturday School is a perfect way to get back on track or stay ahead.

If your child needs help in specific subjects or is planning to take the TSI exam soon, Saturday School is the ideal environment for focused learning. We want to ensure that all our students have the tools they need to excel, and we’re here to support them every step of the way.

Please remind your student to attend on Saturday, February 8th, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We look forward to seeing many of our students take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their skills and boost their academic performance.

Parent/Teacher Conference Parent/Teacher Conference

Wednesday February 5th 1pm-6pm

We are excited to invite you to our Parent-Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, February 5th, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at El Paso High School. This is a valuable opportunity for you to connect with your child's teachers, discuss their progress, and address any questions or concerns you may have about their academic experience.

Whether your student is excelling or facing challenges, these conferences provide a great way to ensure they are on track for success. Teachers will be available throughout the afternoon and evening, so please feel free to stop by at a time that works best for you.

We highly encourage all parents and guardians to attend—your involvement is key to your child’s success!

To help streamline the process, we recommend coming prepared with specific questions or topics you’d like to discuss. If you are unable to attend in person, please contact our front office at (915) 236-2500 to inquire about alternative meeting options.

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education. We look forward to seeing you on February 5th!

Attendance Attendance

As we continue to focus on providing our students with the best educational experience possible, I wanted to take a moment to highlight the critical importance of consistent attendance.

At El Paso High School, we believe that every day matters. Our goal is to ensure that each student has the opportunity to succeed academically, and that starts with showing up to school. Unfortunately, our attendance rates have not been where we’d like them to be, and we need your support to improve this.

Research consistently shows that regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic success. When students are present, they not only benefit from classroom instruction but also build relationships with their peers and teachers—two things that are essential for a positive and thriving learning environment.

Here's how you can help:

  • Encourage your student to attend school every day, unless they are sick or have a valid reason for being absent.
  • Communicate with us if there are any challenges preventing your child from attending school regularly. We’re here to support both you and your student.
  • Stay informed by checking your child's attendance records regularly on the parent portal.

We know that if our students are here at El Paso High, they will have the tools and support they need to be successful. Let's work together to make sure they’re present and ready to learn every day.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.

TELPAS TELPAS

Starting February 20th

English:

As we move forward in this school year, I want to take a moment to discuss the TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System), a crucial test for our emergent bilingual students. This assessment is not only an important part of our school's academic framework, but it is also a state-mandated test that plays a key role in evaluating and supporting our students’ progress in English language development.

The TELPAS measures how well students are able to understand and use English in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The results of this test provide valuable insights into your child’s growth in learning English and help guide the support they need to succeed academically.

Why is TELPAS important?

  • State Requirement: TELPAS is a required assessment for all students who are learning English, as part of the Texas Education Agency’s guidelines.
  • Academic Success: The results help ensure that your student is receiving the appropriate support to thrive in all subject areas.
  • Personal Growth: For emergent bilingual students, mastering English is a critical step towards full academic success, including college and career readiness.

How can you help?

  • Encourage your child to take the test seriously: Remind them that this is not just another test—this is an opportunity to demonstrate their progress and potential in English.
  • Support your student in preparing: Encourage them to practice their English skills, read more in English, and engage in conversations in English whenever possible.
  • Stay informed: We will be sharing more information with you as the test dates approach, but please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions about the process.

Together, we can ensure that every student has the support and resources they need to succeed. Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education, and let’s make sure they are ready to do their best on the TELPAS.
