Before & After School Care Program
Special Programs Department
Special Programs Department:
Our Special Programs office is designed to support students that need extra support, from ESE, IEP, 504, ESL/Multilingual, EP, Gifted, and MTSS.
Mrs. Schieber collaborates with Gifted, ESE, IEPs and 504s.
Email: Rachel.Schieber@osceolascience.org
Ms. Fletcher is the MTSS Coach.
Email: tamara.fletcher@osceolascience.org
For anything related to IEPs and 504s, Mrs. Schieber and her team are working hard on seeing students and making sure their needs are being met.
For MTSS, Ms. Fletcher has sent home all the letters for students that need to be in Tier 2 and 3 of MTSS. That means they have a smaller group and work with a teacher throughout the week to help with their reading skills, in addition to their reading class. It is very important to all of us in our department that students receive the support they need to be successful this year and in life.

MENTAL HEALTH AND COUNSELING RESOURCES
SUICIDE PREVENTION
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
988
If you or someone you know is in crisis – considering suicide or not – call and talk confidentially with a trained crisis counselor 24/7. You’ll be connected with a local crisis center in the Lifeline network. Counselors listen empathetically and without judgment, work to ensure callers feel safe, help identify options and offer information about local mental health services.
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
888-333-2377
Provides resources to help people find mental health services. Provides listings of support groups, resources on loss, and suicide prevention information.
WARM LINES
NAMI HelpLine
800-950-6264
info@nami.org
M-F | 10 am – 6 pm (EST)
Trained and knowledgeable responders provide information, referrals and support to people living with a mental health condition, family members and caregivers, mental health providers and the public. Many live with a mental health condition or provide care and support to a family member or friend. In the event of a crisis call, they will transfer callers in crisis or who express suicidal ideation to a national crisis line to provide further assistance. They can answer questions about mental health issues including:
- Symptoms of mental health conditions
- Treatment options
- Local support groups and services
- Education programs
- Helping family members get treatment
- Programs to help find jobs
- Connection with local attorneys
They cannot:
- provide counseling or therapy
- provide specific recommendations for things like treatment
- do individual casework, legal representations or other individual advocacy
1(800)945-1355
The CLEAR Warm Line is for individuals with a mental illness who want to talk with someone who shares personal experience coping with mental health issues.
When you need someone to listen or need to feel heard, please call.
We are here for you without judgment to provide support!
Peer Operators are available to take your call from
4:00pm – 10:00pm, 7 days per week

THE ABC's OF SWIMMING SAFETY
A is for ADULT SUPERVISION
Near water, all children should be supervised by a designated, sober adult. Teens or older children should never be the only ones responsible for the safety of younger children around pools or other bodies of water. Supervising adults should be able to pull children from the water in the event of an emergency, and should be able to hail a lifeguard or call 911 if needed.
B is for BARRIERS
Door locks, pool fence gates, and audible pool alarms can be annoyances to unlock and replace each time you want to swim in your backyard pool, but they are there for your safety. Children should be taught to respect these barriers, and the pool area should be secured each time you finish swimming.
C is for CLASSES
With so many opportunities to swim in Central Florida, classes on swim instruction are almost a must for everyone, no matter your age. Classes are available through the following:
- Chris Lyle Aquatic Center, 2991 17th St, St Cloud, FL 34769
- Various YMCA locations
- Privately through groups or companies.
If the cost of enrolling children in swim lessons is not affordable, local funding opportunities through 501(3)(c) nonprofits such as the Team Kareem Foundation exist. You can apply for a swim scholarship by using this link.
For adults, First Aid and CPR certification classes are recommended. These can be taken through the American Red Cross. Unfortunately, Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS does not offer First Aid and CPR certified training at this time.
FDOE Water Safety
Swimming is a lot of fun, but drowning is a real danger. Even kids who know how to swim can drown. Water safety education courses and swimming lessons can save lives.
See the link below for resources and information on water safety education courses and swimming lessons in your neighborhood.
Please click for the "Every Child a Swimmer” website which offers low to no cost scholarships for qualified children

SEE THE IMPORTANT MESSAGE BELOW REGARDING FORTIFYFLORIDA:
Any student, educator, parent or member of the public can report school safety concerns directly to law enforcement and school administrators anonymously and easily through the FortifyFL app or www.getfortifyfl.com. The Florida Legislature directed this tool’s development in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.
The app, which is available for download on Apple and Android mobile devices, is critical to ensuring all Florida schools are safe environments where students and educators can experience and share the joy of learning without fear.
We hope that you will become familiar with this tool and help us spread the word about it with your students and their families. Please note that the official app’s logo will look exactly as it does in the graphic above.
