Dear Families,
Welcome to our new and returning families!
The first day of school is quickly approaching and I am so excited to get to meet our new families and continue to build relationships with our returning families. Please take a moment to review this newsletter. I have added important dates and some information about myself as well as an introduction to our new Assitant principal Mr. Kyle Wright. I will be sending out a weekly newsletter to Canton families on Friday evening once the school year officially begins.
In my next update, I will share additional information about procedures/routines that pertain to CMS and the first day of school. If you have any questions please reach out to me via email at kimrudden@u-46.org or via phone at 630-213-5525 ext 5529.
The 7th and 8th grade Welcome Back event is August 3rd from 2 pm -7 pm. Students will be able to pick up their schedules and walk the building that day. Please see the flyer below for more information.
Please note that there will not be teachers in the hallways to help our students during this time, but the building will be open for our students to get familiar with their schedules and lockers. We look forward to seeing you!
We are Canton. We all believe. That we will succeed.
In Partnership,
Principal Rudden
23-24 Schedules
Schedules for middle and high school students are going to be released on Monday, July 17, but only to students who are fully registered.
The schedules will be posted through the Registration Checklist, which is also a resource to help you easily determine what items you need to complete for the 2023-24 school year. To register please visit the U-46 Student Registration site HERE.
To access the Registration Checklist, log into Infinite Campus Parent. Click on the “menu” icon, or look to the menu on the left, and click on the tab that reads “More.” You’ll see the Registration Checklist on the far right of the screen; log into the checklist using the same username and password that you use for Infinite Campus Parent. As you review the checklist, a green checkmark indicates the item is complete. A red or warning sign indicates a required item is missing or incomplete. Click “Español” in the upper right corner to read the checklist in Spanish.
Meet Our New Assistant Principal
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Kyle Wright as the incoming Assistant Principal at Canton Middle School. Mr. Wright is joining us from Streamwood High School where he was the Assistant Principal of Freshmen Success overseeing PE, AVID, and the success of all Freshmen. Mr. Wright has 17 years of experience in education with a background in Special Education.
Mr. Wright's ability to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families that lead to a positive impact on student achievement, self-worth, and a safe and positive school environment makes him a perfect fit for Canton Middle School.
School Supply List
School Supply List
Please see the link below for a list of school supplies for the 23-24 school year. Please know that individual teachers may ask for additional items. Those items will be shared during the first week of school.
As you are purchasing your school supplies, please note that backpacks can only be used for bringing items back and forth to school. They must remain in a student's locker during the day. Finally, for the 23/24 school year, PE uniforms will not be required. Students are asked to bring a comfortable pair of shoes and personal hygiene items to be kept in their lockers.

Cell Phone Policy
CELL PHONES SHOULD BE AWAY FOR THE DAY.
I will continue to share this message throughout the year as it will take community support to be consistent with the Away for the Day policy.
Science supports an "Away For The Day" policy. When students do not have the freedom of accessing their phones during school hours, they are more engaged socially and academically. You can read more about the benefits HERE.
©2022 AWAY FOR THE DAY
All middle schools in the district will be following the district guidelines of "AWAY FOR THE DAY" for cell phone usage. Students will not be allowed to use their cell phones during the school day, including during lunch, in the locker room or bathrooms. These district-wide middle school guidelines support classroom learning and improved culture and climate efforts for all middle school students in order to minimize distractions and help teachers create and manage a classroom and school environment conducive to learning, discussion and collaboration. It also helps protect students against bullying and/or inappropriate social media use during school hours, which are often exacerbated by cell phone access.
In accordance with our secondary cell phone guidelines, students are expected to put their silenced or powered-off cell phone in their locker upon arriving at school. Our intention is to help students create better habits when in learning environments. If students are unable to keep devices out of sight and in their lockers, teachers may provide a warning and remind/ask their students to put the phone away in their lockers or cell phone holders until the end of the period. If students do not comply and continue to engage in electronic device misuse, progressive discipline procedures will be followed. This may include, but is not limited to, the following consequences: having the student turn over his/her phone to the main office for parent pick up, or issuance of referrals resulting in detentions and other discipline-related interventions.
Parents - If you need to get a hold of your student during the day, please call the main office and we will either relay your message or bring your student to the main office for you to speak to them directly.
