Prayer

O Lord,

As the sun rises, may your love rise in my heart.

A love that dispels tiredness.

A love that overcomes difficulty.

A love that builds relationship.

A love that inspires diligence.

A love that delivers excellence.

A love that develops trust.

A love that produces praise.

Lord, may I live in the light of your love.

Amen

There is something special about this week at Queen of Apostles.

As we celebrate both Wellness Week and Book Week, we are reminded that learning is about so much more than academics. It is about nurturing healthy, happy and curious young people who feel connected, inspired and ready to thrive.

Throughout Wellness Week, we are intentionally slowing the pace. With no homework, sports uniform all week and no staff meetings, we are creating space to recharge, spend time together and focus on the habits that support positive wellbeing. Whether it is enjoying a family walk, reading a book, kicking the footy in the backyard or simply sharing a meal together, these moments matter. They strengthen relationships and remind us that balance is an important part of a healthy life.

At the same time, Book Week invites us to celebrate the incredible power of stories. Books have a unique way of sparking imagination, building empathy and opening doors to new worlds. Our annual Book Week Parade is always one of the highlights of the school year, and I was excited to see the creativity and excitement as our students arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. A huge thank you to Mrs O’Brien for her wonderful organisation of this special event.

As parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is a love of reading. Just 15–20 minutes of reading together each day can make a significant difference to vocabulary, comprehension and academic achievement, while also creating lasting family memories.

As we journey through this week together, I encourage every family to embrace both themes: make time to slow down, prioritise wellbeing and enjoy the simple pleasure of sharing a good book.

Here's my challenge for every Queenies family this week:

  • Read together for at least 20 minutes each evening.

  • Spend some quality time outdoors as a family.

  • Ask your child about the favourite part of their day.

  • Find one small way to support your family's wellbeing.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students grow academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Have a wonderful Wellness Week, happy reading and enjoy the long weekend!

Green lights.

Eary Years learning through The Reggio Emilia Approach

Last week, I was fortunate to attend a Melbourne study tour as part of a research project, together with teachers from other CEWA schools. The Melbourne Study Tour, Leadership for Participation – Growing Pedagogical Culture through the Reggio Emilia Principles, was a deeply meaningful experience for me and my colleagues.

I have been very privileged to be involved in a collaborative program alongside a small number of other CEWA schools exploring the principles of the Reggio Emilia Approach. The Reggio Emilia approach is a way of teaching young children that values their ideas and curiosity. Children learn through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences, while teachers support and guide their learning. My research project is focusing on listening closely to children through their play, recognising their ideas, curiosity, creativity, and the many ways they communicate and make meaning of the world around them.

The study tour was a wonderful opportunity to learn from other passionate early years educators and leaders from around Australia about the Reggio Emilia approach. It was also a great opportunity to share ideas and reflect on our teaching practices, gaining new ideas and perspectives that I can bring back into the Kindy classroom. A big thank you to Bialik College for welcoming us and allowing us to visit. It was an inspiring experience and a great opportunity to learn and take away new ideas.

I came away with a renewed appreciation for the relationships between children, educators and the environment, and the power of working together and speaking up for early childhood to make a positive difference. Most of all, I was reminded that the moments matter—the small, everyday interactions that communicate to children that they are seen, heard and valued.

There is only ONE more sleep until our highly anticipated One Big Voice performance at RAC Arena tomorrow, Friday, August 21st! Our students have poured incredible effort and dedication into preparing for this concert, and we cannot contain our excitement!

A very big thank you goes out to our wonderful choir members for their extra effort and hard work throughout this term. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the parents for their fantastic support in the lead-up to the concert, and for ensuring their child arrived early for our morning practices.

It is greatly appreciated!

We are looking forward to this amazing night! Can’t wait to share the photos!

Volunteers Volunteers

The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.

Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.

At Queen of Apostles, we value the strong partnership between home and school. When families and staff work together with mutual respect, open communication and a shared commitment to every child's wellbeing, our students are best placed to flourish.

Catholic Education Western Australia has recently introduced a new Parent and Carer Code of Conduct, which outlines the shared expectations for respectful engagement across our school community. The Code encourages positive communication, respectful relationships, support for school policies and constructive approaches to resolving concerns, all while keeping the safety and wellbeing of students at the centre of every interaction.

A copy of the Parent and Carer Code of Conduct is attached to this newsletter for your information. I encourage all families to take a few moments to read the document as we continue working together to foster a safe, welcoming and Christ-centred community where every child can thrive.
