Principal's Message

Dear Hallinan Families,

Four years ago, I collaborated with Mary’s Woods to apply for a grant through the PGE Renewable Development Fund. The grant was awarded and Mary’s Woods was able to install solar panels on one of their buildings. This wonderful partnership has since grown and we have formed an intergenerational program where Hallinan students and staff and Mary’s Woods residents and staff are working together toward a green and sustainable future for our next generation.

Last Friday, I joined Ms Orme’s 3rd grade class and we went to Mary’s Woods for a Celebration of Renewable Energy. Ms Orme’s class read a poem, and spoke about sustainability, what it means and how we demonstrate it at Hallinan. And, last spring, one of our classes assisted Mary’s Woods in planting their pollinator garden to support local bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. We are very grateful for our important – and fun – partnership with Mary’s Woods. We took a few photos to share with you all. I am also including photos of our 3rd grade teaching staff. If you've been following along, you may notice that I skipped 2nd grade this week - don't worry, I haven't forgotten, I will include them next week.

And please don't forget - the Required Tech Consent is due by Friday, 9/30 (for K-5th grade only) and the annual Volunteer Application for LOSD (all parents/guardians/grandparents/friends must complete) if you want to volunteer at Hallinan this year. There will be so many volunteer opportunities this year - and we would love to have you all join us - please don't delay!

New Application for School Volunteers New Application for School Volunteers

zoom_out_map

For the safety of children, volunteers are required to have an approved background check when volunteering in schools. To help streamline compliance with state and school board policies, which require that all volunteers have background checks and knowledge of other board policies -- as well as state-mandated proof of vaccination (or a qualified exemption) -- we are introducing a new all-in-one volunteer application and approval process through ou Raptor Visitor Management System. Submitting an online application initiates the background check process. Once submitted, applicants will receive an email upon approval of your background check and you will be given access through the onsite Raptor System at all schools. Please allow up to three weeks to process your approval.

Volunteers need to submit only one application for volunteering in all LOSD schools. Applications need to be submitted annually to capture changes in background checks, policies, and/or vaccination requirements. Thank you for applying promptly, and for your service to our students and schools. We are grateful for our volunteers. Volunteer Application for LOSD

Student Services Back-To-School-Night Student Services Back-To-School-Night

The Student Services Department is hosting an evening event for parents/guardians on Monday, October 3 to share department information about our mission, dedicated systems of support (program descriptions), program relocation plan, and to meet our new parent advisory building reps (building-based Student Services staff are welcome to attend, but you are not expected to attend this parent/guardian informational event).

State Assessment Score Reports State Assessment Score Reports

LOSD now delivers students’ state assessment results online through ParentVUE rather than mailing paper. This is in keeping with the district’s strategic goal of sustainability and mirrors how we deliver report cards. Your child’s 2021-22 assessment reports are now available on your ParentVUE Documents page. As you review your student’s English Language Arts, math, and science scores, please keep in mind:

  • An achievement level of 3 or 4 is considered to be on track for the student’s grade level.

  • Scores on state assessments are only one measure of a student’s academic progress. We use these scores in conjunction with classroom work and other daily, weekly, monthly, and term assessments to understand your student’s strengths and areas for improvement.

If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you do not have a ParentVUE account, go to the ParentVUE Account Access page and click "Request Account Activation" to start the process. If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account or need assistance, please contact Lee or Linda at 503 534 2353.
