Congratulations to Banyan Elementary School and Wildwood Elementary School who were announced last week by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond as two of the 336 elementary schools selected for the prestigious 2025 California Distinguished Schools Program!
Banyan and Wildwood Elementary Schools earned this recognition through successful demonstration of Exceptional Student Performance. Schools recognized for Exceptional Student Performance are among the highest in overall student achievement in the state, while also showing strong indicators of student engagement and positive school climate. Specifically, schools were selected by analyzing data reported through the 2024 Dashboard, with a focus on demonstrating excellence and growth in academic achievement and ensuring a positive school climate.
Since its inception in 1985, the California Distinguished Schools Award remains one of the state’s most important ways to celebrate exceptional schools, districts, teachers, and classified employees for their innovation, talent, and success in supporting students.
Elementary schools and middle and high schools are recognized as California Distinguished Schools in alternate years; therefore, awardees hold the title for two years.
On Monday, March 24th, the winners of the 70th annual Ventura County Science Fair were announced at an awards ceremony at the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE) in Camarillo. Awards were presented in a variety of scientific categories, including microbiology, engineering, and chemistry. 🌟For the third consecutive year, a Thousand Oaks High School student has been selected as the one Ventura County Science Fair participant to earn the honor of competing in the prestigious International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) which will take place in Columbus, Ohio in May. Natalie Yip, 11th grade, award-winning project title is: Investigating the Synergistic Effect of Hesperidin and Fisetin on Aspergillus Niger and Hippodamia Convergens.

Madroña Academy of the Arts and Sciences Celebrates 60 Years of Excellence

Over the last three weeks, our three comprehensive high schools each hosted a Unified Sports Basketball Game in front of a cheering crowd, with stellar basketball skills, sportsmanship, inclusion, and fun on full display for slam dunk events.
In preparation for the annual Games, the teams typically practice once a week where training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding between teammates. It’s social inclusion through sport where students foster respect for each other and become leaders on and off the court.
These events are made possible because of the CVUSD’s dedicated staff members who have made this memorable experience possible. The CVUSD is proud to be part of the #InclusionRevolution. Way to go Athletes and Unified Partners!
