Principal Update 9/3/24

Good Morning Memorial Families,

I hope that everyone enjoyed the weekend. We are embarking on our first full week of school and I am sure that our younger students will be coming home quite exhausted.

On Friday, we held our first all school meeting of the year. Ask your child what his/her favorite part was. Was it the birthday song, or the story, or maybe the video showcasing students who received positive office referrals. My personal favorite was simply having all 500 students together in one place, sharing and celebrating together. It did cause a bit of disruption to dismissal on Friday, as the meeting went a little long and caused a delay in just about every facet of the dismissal process. I appreciate everyone's patience at pick up on Friday. We do still have some challenges with the following, and I'm asking for everyone's help to try to alleviate the delays.

1. Please make sure that your child knows that they are going parent pick up. We have had an abundance of last minute changes and especially at the beginning of the year, that can make things difficult.

2. Parents should not be getting out of your cars unless you have a preschooler. All students K-4 should be learning how or know how to buckle themselves in the back. Please keep practicing!

3. Please make sure your sign with your child's name is large enough for me to read. I am trying to direct traffic and call names simultaneously and it is very helpful to not have to search for the name.

On our side, we are working to make sure that kids are coming out when they are called. We have a large number of kids that are being transported by car this year and the cafeteria, where we house all of the kids awaiting pick up, is requiring more help than we have available. I urge you, if you can, to have your child ride the bus. If your child does not come out when we call the line, we will instruct you to move your car while we wait for your child so that we don't hold up the line. Thank you all for your patience as we continue to adapt to the volume of cars that we are seeing this year.

Next week we will be holding our Open House nights at Memorial. We are making some adjustments this year to allow the night to be more informative for parents. This night will be adults-only (children will not attend) and feature two separate presentations. All families will begin in the cafeteria at the start of your open house time for an overview of school-wide procedures and information, and then you will transition up to your child's classroom to hear a presentation from your child's teacher. If you are unable to make it, be sure to touch base with your child's teacher to se if there are things that they are able to share with you in another way. My presentation will be shared on the school webpage following the Open House nights. Here is the schedule to put in your calendars:

Monday, September 16th

6-7pm Grades PreK and 3

7-8pm Grade 4

Tuesday, September 17th

6-7pm Grades K and 1

7-8pm Grade 2

Have a terrific week ahead!

Warmly,

Wendy

School Hours School Hours

Our school hours are 8:45am-3:15pm. Drop off begins at 8:45 and students who arrive after 9:00am are considered tardy. We will begin dismissal right around 3:15pm.

Due to the hectic nature of the late afternoon, we will no longer be allowing parent dismissals from the main office after 2:45pm. If your child has an appointment, please plan to dismiss him/her earlier, or make use of our pick up line at 3:15pm. Thank you for understanding.

Please click here for information about parent drop off and pick up. We have a complicated driveway and want to make sure our students are safe. We ask that you read through the instructions carefully if it is your first time dropping off or picking up from school.
