From Principal Honeycutt From Principal Honeycutt

I wanted to share the three reminders I’ve been announcing to students this past week:

  1. Hands to Yourself:
We’ve had an increase in horseplay and overly physical behavior during class changes and other busy transitions. What one student sees as “just playing around” can easily be interpreted differently by others. To keep everyone safe and comfortable, we’re reminding students to simply keep their hands to themselves.

  2. No Spraying Perfume or Cologne at School:
Students should apply perfume, cologne, or body spray at home, not in hallways or bathrooms. Sprays can trigger allergies or asthma for some students, so we want to make sure everyone can breathe easy at school.

  3. Microwave Use—No Popcorn:
The student microwave is intended for quickly heating lunches, not for popping popcorn. Since popcorn takes several minutes per bag, it prevents other students from being able to warm up their meals in the limited time we have for lunch.

Red Ribbon Week Red Ribbon Week

NBMS will celebrate Red Ribbon Week this week! Throughout the week, students will take part in activities that promote making healthy choices and living drug-free.

We’ll wrap up the celebration on Friday, October 31 with Community Heroes Day! Students will have the opportunity to meet local heroes and explore emergency and safety vehicles up close. It’s a great way to honor those who keep our community safe while learning more about their important roles.

Let’s show our Blackhawk pride and make healthy choices together! ❤️🖤🤍

Join Us for Community Night Join Us for Community Night

We’re excited to invite all of our North Buncombe families to our upcoming Community Night — a special evening designed to bring us together, connect, and celebrate the heart of our school community!

This event is truly for everyone — a chance to share a meal, laugh together, and strengthen the bonds that make our school such a special place.

We’ll have a free catered dinner for all who attend and plenty of fun games and activities for families to enjoy. Whether you’ve been part of North Buncombe Middle for years or are new to our school, we’d love to see you there.

Come connect, relax, and be part of something that reminds us all that school is the center of our community — and our community is what makes our school strong. 🖤❤️

BCS Annual Update of Family Contacts BCS Annual Update of Family Contacts

We’d like to remind you of an important opportunity to ensure your student’s household and contact information are current. If you need to make changes, you can easily do so during the Annual Update though your Infinite Campus Parent Portal — but only for a limited time.

How to Access the Annual Update:

  • Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal

  • Go to the Shortcuts section, or click More in the main menu and select Online Registration Update

From there, you can easily review and update information such as phone numbers, emergency contacts, and your home address. Please note: If you update your address, you will need to provide new proof of residence to your student’s school before the change is finalized.

The update window closes on November 15, so please log in and make any necessary changes as soon as possible. If you do not yet have a Parent Portal account or need help accessing it, please reach out to your student’s school for assistance. To set up a new Infinite Campus Parent Portal account, you can also use these step-by-step directions and helpful user guides posted on the Buncombe County Schools website.

With winter weather approaching, it’s especially important that we have your most up-to-date information to ensure you receive timely notifications and updates of any schedule changes.

Thank you for helping keep you connected with your student's school.

Reproductive Health Classes Reproductive Health Classes

Dear Parent,

With the passing of the “Healthy Youth Act of 2009,” schools are directed to provide Reproductive Health and Safety Education to students in grades 6-9. Instructors will be Buncombe County Schools Health educators. The 7th and 8th grade comprehensive four-day curriculum will include developmentally appropriate materials while focusing on the following points:

1. Abstinence is the expected standard for youth.

2. Reasons, decision making skills, and strategies for becoming or remaining abstinent.

3. Strategies to deal with peer pressure.

4. Abstinence is the only certain means of preventing pregnancy and diseases.

5. The best lifelong means of prevention is fidelity in marriage, and the benefits of abstinence as compared to the risks of premarital sex.

6. Factually accurate biological and pathological information related to the human reproductive system.

7. How STD’s are transmitted, the effectiveness of all FDA-approved methods for STD prevention, and information on local resources for testing and treatment.

8. Awareness of sexual assault, sexual abuse and risk reduction.

We acknowledge that parents are the best and primary educators for their children. We want to support your efforts, honor your wishes and work with you to provide a quality program and the best outcome for your child while still meeting the mandates of the law. We encourage you to talk with your child as he/she participates in the program. Instructional outlines and materials follow the North Carolina Healthful Living Essential Teaching Standards and are available for review at https://bit.ly/BCS7-9. If you have further questions, please contact Jennifer Johnson, Healthful Living Coordinator, at 255-5960 or jennifer.johnson@bcsemail.org.

If after you have previewed the materials and objectives, you wish for your child to be removed from this instruction, please notify me in writing, through a note or email, before the first day of the unit begins. Click here for my email. Your child will be removed from those days of instruction, without consequence, and be provided with an alternative assignment.

Thanks, Principal Honeycutt
