The Great Lister Tie Swap
From September 2025, all pupils will switch to wearing a coloured tie that is linked to their year group.
The colour will remain with the year group as they move up the school.
Current Year 7 – red
Current Year 8 – Blue
Current Year 9 – Purple
Current Year 10 – Green
If you have a clean tie in excellent condition, please bring it into school on MONDAY 23RD JUNE.
Pupils may exchange it in the agora at the end of the day (3pm) for a tie of the appropriate colour.
Failing that, you may buy a new tie from the uniform shop.
Black Trainers - Part of the Lister Uniform
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are excited to announce a significant and positive evolution to the Lister Community School uniform policy, effective from now, and looking to the next academic year. Following extensive consultation with our students, parents, and staff, we will now be permitting plain black trainers as part of the everyday school uniform. Here at the Lister News Desk, we think it is important to emphasise the 'plain' part of the new uniform policy - do not let your children convince you that some colour will be ok when you buy new trainers. Any colour, other than black, will mean that they do not meet the uniform standard and you will be asked to buy new trainers which are completely black.
A Summer of Fun at Newham's Libraries
As the summer holidays approach, we know you'll be looking for engaging and enriching activities to keep your children entertained and learning. We are delighted to share that Newham Libraries will be hosting a fantastic array of free events and initiatives throughout the summer, offering something for everyone in the family!
A highlight for many children across the borough will be the annual Summer Reading Challenge. This wonderful national initiative encourages children to continue reading for pleasure during the long break. Each year, there's a new exciting theme, and children are encouraged to read a set number of books, earning rewards like stickers, certificates, and even medals along the way. It's a brilliant way to keep young minds active, explore new worlds through stories, and maintain literacy skills over the holidays. Details on how to sign up and participate will be available at all Newham Libraries soon.
Beyond the reading challenge, Newham Libraries are vibrant community hubs that truly come alive in the summer. You can expect a diverse programme of activities designed to spark creativity, encourage discovery, and provide fun for all ages. While specific dates and times for individual events will be announced closer to the summer, based on previous years, these often include engaging storytelling sessions for younger children, inspiring arts and crafts workshops where children can unleash their artistic talents, and various games and club activities like LEGO clubs or board game sessions. These events offer fantastic opportunities for children to socialize, learn new skills, and explore different interests in a supportive environment.
We highly recommend visiting your local Newham Library in the coming weeks or checking the Newham Libraries website and social media channels. They regularly update their schedules with all the exciting events planned for the summer holidays. Engaging with your local library is a fantastic, free way to enrich your child's summer break, fostering a love of reading and learning that extends far beyond the classroom.
