Leighton Update
November 22nd, 2025
Dear Leighton Families,
The Leighton Book Fair facilitated by our wonderful AEPTO was a huge success. The students had a lot of fun picking out choice book titles this week and it was fantastic to see so many families this past Tuesday evening during the "Family Night" hours. We would like to sincerely thank our AEPTO VP Kelly Shoffstall and all volunteers who helped make the event run so smoothly. Also, a huge thank you to Mrs. Kinkoph who directed the students during each of their Media classes for the book fair and helped out all week long. Additionally, the AEPTO completed the annual "Giving Tree" event that is done at all three elementaries. We are so grateful for the support, generosity and time donated by our PTO to support our students and staff!
We want to send a reminder that Leighton will be closed for the upcoming holiday break, and students will not have school from Wednesday, November 26th, through Monday, December 1st. We eagerly anticipate welcoming our students back on Tuesday, December 2nd.
The entire Leighton staff wishes you and your family a truly restful and gratitude-filled break. Whatever your plans—be it enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving meal, traveling, or just enjoying some well-deserved family time—we hope you enjoy.
We also want to take this opportunity to express our profound appreciation for the continuous support you provide at home. Your dedication to your child's academic, social, and emotional development is truly seen and valued. We are incredibly fortunate to partner with such committed families and we simply could not achieve our goals without your efforts.
Sincerely,
Spencer Warders

Winter Weather Reminders
As the calendar approaches December, the temperatures are dropping and snow is upon us. The kids already got to have fun in the snow during recess last week as you can see! The following are some reminders for our students with outdoor recess.
- We will be outside for recess if the "feels like" temperature is approximately 17° or higher.
- With the temperature restriction it could mean our early recess (3rd) may be indoor, while our late (5th) is outdoor.
- Please ensure you are keeping an eye on the weather and sending your child in appropriately dressed to be outside during the winter months.
- Boots and snow pants, in addition to a coat, hat and gloves are required for students to be allowed to play in the snow. If they are missing their boots or snow pants on these snowy days, they will only be permitted to play on the blacktop.
- Please label all winter clothing items with your child's first and last name. It makes it so much easier to return items to their owner when that is the case. We donate an enormous amount of clothing each year because we have no way to know who it belongs to. Thank you in advance for your help!
4th Grade Robotics Finale
During the 4th grade Robotics Club Finale, our students got to show off what they have been working on in Robotics club with their robots and coding to their friends and family. Our students demonstrated some extremely impressive innovation and engineering skills! Thank you to Mrs. Becky Quinn for facilitating such a great opportunity for our students.

Leighton Choir Performance Field Trip
The Leighton Choir delivered a truly outstanding performance on November 21 at the 44th Annual Akron Festival of Trees. Their young, beautiful voices filled Knight Hall with Disney favorites such as The Bare Necessities and Under the Sea, featuring an impressive lineup of soloists: Charlie Yurman, Zeda Lane, Allie Keckan, Lilly Roorda, Emma Heiber, Lilliana Smearcheck, Maddie Sanford, Ola Horne, Andy Bresky, Nolan Eshelman, Vishank Polsani, Morgan Riffert, Eira Holmes, Sarah Kim, Elizabeth Anderson, Delaney Calapa, Emma Nelson, Sophia Klich, Marcus Hamilton-Sturge, Vivian Deeb, Olive Klich, Julia Streit, Adelyn Lewis, and Juliana Chordas.
The choir closed their set with joyful holiday selections, including "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Jingle Bells," and "Up on the Housetop," leaving the audience smiling and full of seasonal cheer.
Their next performance will take place on Saturday, December 13, at the Aurora Music Festival on the Aurora High School stage. We look forward to another wonderful showcase of their talent!
Leighton General Music Performance Reminder
The Leighton Elementary 5th Grade General Music students are proud to present a special concert on Monday, December 15, featuring a lively mix of patriotic selections, Broadway favorites, and festive holiday music. Our students thoughtfully chose each song and offered their own unique flair, with several pieces showcasing featured performers from each class.
Our 5th graders have shown remarkable focus and dedication throughout their rehearsals, and they are excited to share their hard work and musical talents with families and friends.
Please have students arrive at Leighton Elementary by 6:00 p.m. to line up. The performance will begin promptly at 6:15 p.m. We look forward to celebrating an evening of music and student creativity!
