Attendance
Please phone in attendance or use the attendance email: ndhsattendance@rdcrs.ca
Parents/guardians have 48 hours to retroactively correct attendance. Students can not phone themselves in to excuse absences. This must be done by parents/guardians.
Students are marked Unexcused Absent (U) if they arrive 30 minutes or more into a class period. If they arrive within 30 minutes of the bell, students will be marked Tardy (T). Teachers do make note of the time the student arrives to the class. It is the responsibility of the student to connect with their teacher if they are late to class in order to have their attendance adjusted. It is only the teacher who can confirm whether the student was in attendance. If you believe that your student was incorrectly marked as absent unexcused, please have them speak to their teacher.

Pathways to Dentistry - Annual Dentistry for a Day Event
Pathways to Dentistry is a student-led initiative. The aim of this group is to help minimize the barriers that students from financially marginalized communities face when trying to apply to dental school. Pathways to Dentistry provides information to prospective students regarding the Doctor of Dentistry (DDS), Dental Hygiene (DH), and Dental Assisting (DA) programs who may otherwise not have access to these resources.
They are hosting their third Dentistry for a Day workshop at the University of Alberta on Saturday, October 17th, 2026, in the Dental Simulation Lab located in KHRA (11405 87 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB). The purpose of this event is to give high school students hands-on experience with general tasks performed by dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants. They hope that by doing so, participants may be inspired to pursue a future career in dentistry.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in either a morning (9 AM-12 PM) or afternoon (1-4 PM) session. Registration will be open on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 6 PM and will be on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited spots. Students can sign up on the email list to receive notification when the registration opens here.
Participants must have appropriate personal protective equipment which includes: safety glasses, closed-toed shoes, pants, and no hats or hoodies. If students cannot bring these supplies, their application will be rejected. Waiver forms are required for the event and students under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign the form. Consent for photographing and recording at the event is voluntary. Students under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the form. It is strongly recommended that the waiver and consent forms are completed prior to the registration form going live on September 14th.
