MAP Testing

Hello Falcon Families:

We will have our students complete MAP testing this week. MAP (Measures of Academic Performance) is a computer-adaptive assessment developed by NWEA that measures student's achievement and growth in Math, Reading, Science and Language. It provides a personalized assessment to pinpoint their current achievement level and track their progress over time. These results will help our teachers identify areas of strength and areas of improvement and create informed instructional plans for the year.We will be utilizing 4 days to complete this BOY (beginning of the year) testing. Please look for the MAP section below for more information.

This week was a great week for our 7th grade athletes. Football beat Kitty Hawk on Wednesday, Volleyball A and B teams beat Cibolo Creek on Thursday and we had both a 7th grade boy and 7th grade girl place 3rd in the cross country meet.

Amazing activities have been happening in our classes this week as well, make sure to check out the pictures in our STEM Fluency section.

We are holding 3 meetings this week on campus. Monday, 9/15 at 4:30 we have our first PTO meeting of the year in the library. This will be followed by our first Site-Based Decision Committee meeting and our Bullying Committee meeting at 5:45 in the library. These meetings are open to anyone who wants to join. On Tuesday, we have our first Coffee with the Counselors and Principal at 8:15. Please just check in at the front office.

Finally, mark your calendars, Sept. 22nd is School Picture Day!

Please take a moment to read through the information below. We appreciate all your support, and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Nicole Rosas-Saunders, Principal

We will run reverse schedules on Tuesday and Thursday to allow our students to see their classes equally throughout the week. Below is a picture of our schedule for the week.

What is the purpose and use for MAP testing?

1. Inform Instruction: Teachers use the data to create personalized learning paths and target interventions or accelerations

2. Track Progress: Parents and educators can monitor student growth over the school year

3. Inform Decisions: Data helps educators understand student readiness and differentiate instruction

This data will be used by both the teacher and the students to help track progress and create a plan for success and growth this year.

This year 6th and 7th grade will not be given devices to take home. They will have access to a chromebook in each of their core classes, and when their elective class needs them for a lesson, they will have access to chrome carts.

8th grade was issued their devices on Friday. If your student was absent, we will be getting their device to them this week. It is very important that they bring their device to school every day charged.

The students are not responsible for paying the $25 fee this year, but if they damage a device (their own or a class device) they will be responsible for the cost to repair the device. If the damage is done intentionally, their will also be school consequences.
