Teen Sleep Tips
We have seen an uptick in students sleeping during class time. A lot of time, when approached, students say that they are not getting enough sleep due to use of screens and social media late into the night. According to Johns Hopkins University physicians, teens need upwards of 9 to 10 hours of sleep per night to keep up with their developing brains and bodies.
Tips for helping your student get the sleep they need:
Make their bedroom a tech free zone
Promote healthy sleep habits, such as:
Reading before bed
Practicing deep breathing
Journaling
Guided meditation
Encourage students to move their bodies after school
🎒 2026-27 School Year Registration

To secure your child’s spot and ensure they are ready for the fall, please log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal beginning April 1 to register and verify your information.

6th Grade:
Chapter 5: Perspectives + Practice
Knowing you have a voice and expressing what matters to you are invaluable
skills. In this chapter, we’ll explore our power, use our voices as champions for
ourselves and others, and embrace mistakes as learning opportunities.
7th Grade:
Chapter 5: Pressures + Challenges
Belonging with yourself can be challenging when you feel pulled in different
directions from your friends, family, and school environments. In this chapter,
we’ll explore the pressures we experience in our lives and useful ways we can
respond to them, while also taking time to celebrate our growth and share gratitude.
8th Grade:
Chapter 5: Curiosity + Place
Understanding your connection to the places around you helps you become
aware of how and where you feel community in belonging. In this chapter,
we’ll build awareness of our connection to the spaces we move through and
develop the tools we need to stay curious and inquisitive about the world
around us.

Mission 4.0
Hello Vel Phillips Community,
Mission 4POINT0 is excited to announce that we will be having more after school events during the 25-26 school year. For those unfamiliar with this program Mission 4POINT0 has been operating at Vel Phillips middle school on a monthly basis for the past two years. We utilize Vel Phillips indoor areas to create spaces where students have the opportunity to freely express themselves with confidence and respect. If you attend one of our events you can find students participating in pick up sports, dancing, playing computer games, visiting with friends, and doing school work. Select events have also provided students with warm meals and guest speakers. Our mission is dedicated towards promoting students' growth in all areas including social skills, academics, and interpersonal skills. Examples of attributes we promote are respect, problem solving, leadership, adaptability, self advocacy, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, confidence, and communication.
The dates for upcoming events are 11/26, 12/17, 1/28, 2/25, 3/25, 4/29, and 5/27 all from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. If your student wishes to attend our after school events please download, sign this document LINK, and return it to mission4point0@gmail.com. Students that do not have the document turned in will not be able to participate in any Mission 4POINT0 events. We highly recommend students to wear athletic shoes that both cover your heel and ties tightly. This is a community event, parents, guardians and siblings are all invited to participate in a 1 v 1 on the basketball court or go create a drawing in the events lobby. Please send emails to mission4point0@gmail.com if you plan to attend an event or have any questions.
