⭐ PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE ⭐ ⭐ PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE ⭐

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 2. As we wrap up the semester, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a busy and successful term at Regents Park Public School.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended parent-teacher interviews this week. We trialled the new SchoolBytes booking system, which allowed families to select from a range of time slots throughout the week. While it was wonderful to see so many of you, we noticed that a number of families were unable to attend. If you missed this opportunity and would like to speak with your child’s teacher, please don’t hesitate to get in touch early next term.

Student Reports

Semester 1 student reports were sent home last week. These reports follow the updated Department of Education guidelines introduced earlier this year. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress in more detail, please contact their class teacher.

A Semester of Growth and Success

As we conclude the first half of the school year, I want to acknowledge the hard work, commitment, and contributions of our students, staff, and families. Below are just a few of the highlights that make our school so special.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Excursions and incursions such as to the State Library, the Botanical Gardens, and a K–2 petting zoo provided rich, hands-on learning experiences.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

Our students are regularly acknowledged and rewarded for positive behaviour through class and playground systems, PBL awards and end of term reward days. Staff explicitly teach and reinforce our school-wide expectations — Safe, Respectful, Learners — building a consistent and supportive school culture.

Cultural and Community Celebrations

We have proudly acknowledged ANZAC Day, Harmony Day, Refugee Week, World Autism Awareness Day, NAIDOC Week and Disability Inclusion Week. These important events help our students build empathy, respect, and a sense of belonging.

Starting Strong in Kindergarten

Our youngest learners began their school journey with confidence, thanks to our comprehensive Kindergarten Transition Program and the skilled staff who supported their first semester of school.

Student Leadership

We celebrated our student leaders with a Captains and Prefects Morning Tea with their parents. Our leaders also took part in a leadership excursion designed to build their skills and confidence. We have also provided a range of leadership opportunities for students including Sports House captains and Vice Captains, Kindergarten buddies and Student Representative Council roles.

Enrichment and Extra-Curricular Activities

This term, students participated in a range of activities including:

  • Public speaking competitions

  • Reward Days

  • Jump Rope for Heart

  • National Simultaneous Storytime

  • Premier’s Reading Challenge

  • The RESPECT program

  • The Easter Hat Parade

  • 3-6 Choir

These activities help our students grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

Parent and Community Engagement

We welcomed families onsite for our Meet the Teacher afternoon, Mother’s Day Breakfast and parent run stall, Coffee Catch-Ups and information sessions, an Iftar event and many events and assemblies.

We are proud of the strong relationships we continue to build with our school community.

Fundraising and Community Spirit

Thanks to the generous support of our school community, we raised funds through:

  • Lolly guessing competitions

  • Ice cream and floatie days

  • Easter Raffle

  • Jersey Day

  • SRC Can drive

  • Mothers Day Raffle

  • Various mufti days

Funds raised go directly towards purchasing extra school resources that benefit all learners.

Sporting Opportunities

Students took part in a wide range of sporting events, including PSSA Gala Days, Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals, Goal College, District competitions and In-school sport programs.

Professional Learning and School Improvement

Staff participated in high-impact professional learning in literacy and numeracy. This included working with literacy expert Jann Farmer-Hailey, and engaging in network opportunities such as Instructional Rounds, an Aspiring Leaders Program and an collaborative Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction group.

Student Support and Wellbeing

We support learners through a range of in-school services and programs, including:

  • Speech Therapy

  • Occupational Therapy

  • A School Nurse

  • Counselling services

  • Family support through Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre

  • Personalised learning and support plans

  • learning and support team referrals

  • Learning support

  • EAL/D support

Whole-School Programs Provided for All Students

These school-funded programs ensure every child has access to high-quality learning and wellbeing support. They include:

  • Life Skills In school Program : Building resilience and mindfulness

  • Life Skills GO: Daily check-ins for emotional regulation

  • Footsteps Dance: Creative and active dance sessions

  • Amplify Music: A music program for K–6

  • Mathletics: Personalised, engaging maths learning

A Final Word

There is so much to be proud of at Regents Park Public School. I want to sincerely thank our dedicated staff, our wonderful students, and our supportive parents and carers for a fantastic Term 2. Wishing everyone a safe and restful holiday break. We look forward to welcoming students back in Term 3.

🌳 Royal Botanical Garden Excursion 🌳 🌳 Royal Botanical Garden Excursion 🌳

Stage 2 Students Explore Science in the Royal Botanic Gardens 🌿

On Tuesday 25th June, our Stage 2 students ventured into the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens for an exciting day of hands-on scientific discovery. The excursion provided a fantastic opportunity for students to investigate the fascinating world of Australian plants and their lifecycles.

During their visit, students explored whether specific native plants require fire or smoke to complete their lifecycle. Through thoughtful predictions and real-world scientific investigations, they planted seeds to take back to school where they will continue their learning journey. A highlight for many students was discovering for the first time that our classes are actually different shades of green, a creative and fun connection to the plant world around them.

Throughout the day, students developed their skills in field botany and nature journaling, identifying patterns in plants and grouping them by external features. They closely examined leaf shapes and colours, compared various types of vegetation such as trees, shrubs, grasses and plants, and deepened their understanding of plant structures and classification.

An interactive guided walk through the Gardens helped students explore the process of pollination and seed dispersal, and how these are examples of interdependence between living things. Students walked away with a deeper appreciation of plant life cycles and the important work scientists do in classifying and conserving our natural environment.

It was a memorable day of learning, discovery, and connection to nature for all! 🌱🪴

Multicultural Public Speaking Competition Regional Final

On Wednesday 25th June, three students from Stage 2 and Stage 3 participated in the regional final of the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition. This allowed students to show case their amazing talent in the area of Public Speaking. The competition was tough and there were some amazing speeches from all competitors.

Our Stage 2 representative presented their speech on 'What makes a good Leader', our stage 3 representative Houda presented her speech titled 'Rebuilding' and Natalie presented 'Everyone has a Story'. All students spoke with incredible confidence and poise. As part of the competition, students also presented an impromptu speech which they only had 5 minutes to prepare.

We are so proud of these students, their efforts and the way that they represented the school. Congratulations!

🌟 Kindergarten PBL Rewards Day 🌟 🌟 Kindergarten PBL Rewards Day 🌟

A Creative Celebration 🎨🖌️

Our Kindergarten students had a wonderful time celebrating their PBL Rewards Day with a fun-filled day of arts and crafts! With the chilly winter weather outside, it was the perfect opportunity to stay warm and get creative indoors.

Students enjoyed rotating through a variety of hands-on workstations, including plaster painting, play-doh, felt boards, building activities, dot painting, and a special canvas classroom painting session. It was a joy to see so many happy faces engaged in imaginative and colourful activities throughout the day.

A huge congratulations to all our Kindergarten students for achieving their PBL reward for Term 2 – your positive behaviour, effort, and enthusiasm have truly paid off.

K–6 Canary – Spectacular Young Scientists! 🔬🌼

This term in Science, K–6 Canary have been exploring the Living World, learning all about the features of animals and plants, and what living things need to survive.

Our curious young scientists have been busy investigating the parts of a plant—flowers, leaves, and stems—through fun, hands-on experiments. One of their favourite activities involved placing white flowers in coloured water to observe what happens as the stems draw up the liquid. What a colourful way to learn about how plants work!

It’s been wonderful to see students practicing their scientific skills of observation, prediction, and investigation with such enthusiasm. Great work, K–6 Canary! 👏🌱

Ms Salinas

K–6 Sunflower – Measuring Up in Maths! ✨📏

This week, our wonderful K–6 Sunflower students have been getting hands-on in their Mathematics lessons, exploring the concept of length using informal units of measurement such as blocks, pencils, and even their own self-made rulers!

With curious minds and collaborative teamwork, students measured various classroom objects, compared lengths, and engaged in thoughtful discussions about what was longer or shorter.

It’s been a fantastic way to develop their numeracy skills through fun, practical learning experiences. We’re so proud of their enthusiasm – our young mathematicians are truly measuring up! 👏📐

Mrs Collins & Ms Naem

K–6 Amber – Maths! ✨

In K/6 Amber, students put their measuring skills to the test by using unifix cubes to determine the length of the line marker on their table. Working together, they carefully lined up the cubes end-to-end, counting each one to find the total length. Some students practised number recognition while others challenged themselves with two-digit addition to calculate the total number of cubes used. This hands-on activity helped students develop their understanding of measurement and reinforced the concept of using non-standard units to compare and estimate lengths in a fun and engaging way.

🏃‍♀️🎉 Congratulations to Our Zone Athletics Representatives! 🎉🏃‍♂️

We are incredibly proud to announce that a talented group of students from our school will be representing us at the Zone Athletics Carnival next term!

After an outstanding performance at our recent school athletics carnival, these students have earned their place on the school athletics team through their speed, strength, determination, and sportsmanship. Whether it was flying down the track in sprint events, showing great technique in field events like long jump and shot put, or powering through the longer distance races, each of our team members gave it their all.

Congratulations to all our zone qualifiers! Your hard work and dedication during PE lessons, training sessions, and on carnival day has paid off. You will now compete against other schools in the region, and we know you’ll do us proud by showing the same enthusiasm, resilience and school spirit that got you this far.

We also want to thank our staff, parents, and supporters who have helped along the way, from cheering on at the sidelines to organising and running events. It takes a team to make these opportunities happen.
