The LCPS Letter

Ready for the New School Year!
Students and staff kicked off the 2026/27 school year with anticipation and excitement! One highlight of the new school year is the launch of the Academy of Global and Linguistic Studies at Dominion High School, a program that prepares students to become globally minded problem‑solvers through advanced coursework and immersion in world cultures. Also, families are encouraged to explore the 2026/27 school calendars, including Class of 2027 graduation dates!

E-Bikes and E-Scooter Guidance
E‑bikes and e‑scooters continue to grow in popularity among students, but their increased use has also led to safety concerns in our community. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of everyone on our campuses, all motorized and electric-powered personal transport devices and toys are prohibited from being operated on school grounds. Students may use these devices to commute to school. Once on school property, however, the student must walk their motorized or electric-powered device. Please see the E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety webpage for more information.
Reminder: Clear Bags Required at Varsity Football Games
As the fall athletics season gets underway, LCPS reminds students, families and community members that clear bags are required at all varsity football games.
Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC, may not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches and are limited to one per person. Small medical or parenting bags may be permitted on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to additional security screening.
Please review the guidelines before heading to a game to help make entry as smooth as possible for everyone. Learn more about LCPS athletics and event guidelines.
Fentanyl Awareness and Prevention Day Helps Inform about Dangers of Fentanyl
National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, on Friday, Aug. 21, serves as a solemn reminder of the profound impact of this crisis. It is also a time to honor those working tirelessly to advance awareness, education and prevention efforts in Virginia and across the nation. We remind our community that together, we have the power to make a difference. Learn about the dangers of fentanyl, know the signs of an opioid overdose and what you can do to protect your family and community members. Awareness is one of our greatest tools to combat this deadly substance. www.lcps.org/opioid.

Policy Review
LCPS policies are reviewed every five years per the Code of Virginia. During this process, LCPS asks for input from advisory committees, stakeholder groups and the community at large. Visit the Policy Review webpage for more details and feedback submission deadlines. Providing input does not guarantee that the feedback will be included in the final policy. All feedback will be reviewed by the School Board Committee as they develop policies for submission to the entire School Board. The authority for final approval of any policy lies solely with the Loudoun County School Board.
