October Essential Question
How do my choices reflect my values?
Having good character is about more than just doing well in school or being successful. It is about the choices we make and how we treat other people. Having integrity, sticking to our principles, and caring about others are all important parts of having strong character.
Integrity means being honest and doing the right thing, even when nobody is watching. Being principled means knowing what you believe is right and trying to stick to those values, even when it can be difficult. Caring is also important because our choices do not only affect us. Being kind, respectful, and willing to help others shows that we care about the people around us.
The choices we make every day can show what we truly value. For example, telling the truth when it would be easier to lie shows that honesty matters to us. Keeping a promise shows that we value trust, and helping someone who needs support shows kindness and compassion.
No one makes the perfect choice all the time, but we can always try to learn and do better. By choosing to be honest, stand by our values, and care about others, we can build strong character and become people others can trust and respect.
Passion Project Update-October
We had a great first meeting with students, and our next step is to meet in interest groups to begin to formulate ideas. Many students have already come to me with excellent ideas, and we will work to bring those to life! The newsletter includes important information as well as a link to the student guidebook for the project. Review both with you student, and please be sure that you have signed the Parent Letter acknowledgement form as a requirement of the project.
Students had an opportunity to review the Academic Integrity policy in advisory. The policy should have come home for your review, signature and return to their advisory teacher.
During October, students will write their proposals, submit them for review and approval, and select a project mentor. We will discuss these tasks at the interest group meetings.

Would you rather...
Would you rather tell the truth about a mistake you made, even if you might face a consequence, OR stay quiet because no one saw what happened?
Follow-up questions: What would a principled person choose to do? Why can telling the truth sometimes be difficult? How does your choice show integrity? How might your decision affect other people's trust in you?
