August 2024

For many families, late August is a time of new beginnings. I hope the transition is going well for you and your loved ones. As you can see in the picture below, we are blessed to introduce our new priests to our nursing home Mass tradition. We also look forward to resuming our backpack program ministry in September. This ministry serves students in our school district who need extra food over the weekend and provides a service opportunity to teach our 8th grade students about food insecurity. Please save the date for our fall service day on October 5. Lots of happenings over the next few weeks, so please check our parish website for more details!

Diapers

We are happy to partner with PREPARES to provide diapers to many of our food bank families. This past month we served 10 families with diapers for their little ones. While we are awaiting our next diaper grant, can you help us with diapers? We need sizes 4, 5, and 6. Thank you! Shop our wishlist.

Chicken and Egg Fund

Consider donating to our food bank. We have recently seen an increase in the cost of high protein items such as chicken and eggs. You can donate online (select Community Services - Food Bank from the drop down menu) or place donations in the blue envelopes in the collection basket. Thank you for helping us to provide nutritious food to our food bank families.

Saint Jane Frances de Chantal | Franciscan Media

Jane Frances de Chantal was a wife and the mother of six. When her husband was killed, Saint Jane Frances took a vow not to remarry and sought to join a religious community. She was dissuaded by her spiritual director, Saint Francis de Sales.

"The usual opposition to women in active ministry arose and Francis de Sales was obliged to make it a cloistered community following the Rule of Saint Augustine. Francis wrote his famous Treatise on the Love of God for them. The congregation consisting of three women began when Jane Frances was 45. She underwent great sufferings: Francis de Sales died; her son was killed; a plague ravaged France; her daughter-in-law and son-in-law died. She encouraged the local authorities to make great efforts for the victims of the plague, and she put all her convent’s resources at the disposal of the sick."
