Principal's Pen
June 16, 2023
Dear Parents,
It is so hard to believe that the school year will come to a close Monday. We celebrate the accomplishments of our school and its students and look back at our successes to begin making plans to build on those successes.
The students’ successes shine through in the classroom, on the playground, in PE, in art, in music, on the stage and through our community service projects. Students have grown tremendously, both academically and emotionally. We are so proud of every student's growth and we thank you for entrusting us with your children. This would not have been possible without our dedicated and enthusiastic teachers and staff who work tirelessly to provide a quality, education for our children.
Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all of our families and volunteers for their dedication, time, energy, and support of our efforts throughout the school year. We could not have done it without you. Thank you for partnering with us in the education of our children.
So, to all of our students, teachers and parents, we would like to say, Thank you for an incredible school year! We wish you all a safe, enjoyable summer. We will see you back at Julian Curtiss on September 1st.
Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Trish McGuire and Mr Matthew Hartigan
Important: Summer activities provide valuable experiences in which children learn about themselves and the world around them. Your child’s life can be enriched through reading, journal writing and activities. Look for our summer learning S'more on Monday, June 19th!

Juneteenth Observance
In March, the Board approved Monday, June 19 as the last day of school for all students, excluding grades 6 and 9 which will be finished on Friday, June 16. I am sure you are all aware that last year, the Connecticut governor signed into law establishing a new legal state holiday that day known as Juneteenth Independence Day. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Similar to how GPS observes Veterans Day in November with day-long celebrations, high quality programs, and corresponding lessons, all staff and students will have their focus leading up to Juneteenth in the same manner. We believe that there is no better way to show our respect than to educate our students on the true meaning of the holiday.
