Together We Rise: Updates from the Principal

8/22/2025

A Message from Dr. Delgado

We’ve officially wrapped up our second week of school, and the energy across campus is incredible! Students are fully engaged in learning, and it’s exciting to see how quickly we’ve settled into the rhythm of the year. Many of our science classes are already diving into lab experiments, while every subject area has jumped right into instruction aligned to our district curriculum.

Our athletics teams have started their practices with great enthusiasm and recently held their parent meeting to kick off what promises to be an exciting season. Beyond the classroom and the field, I am so proud of how our newly developed systems and routines are supporting both student learning and safety. It’s clear that our community is adapting well, and these structures are helping us create the positive and focused environment our students deserve.

Thank you to our students, staff, and families for your commitment to making this a strong start. I look forward to all the growth and accomplishments that lie ahead this year!

Schedule Change Update

We want to let you know that we have temporarily paused accepting schedule change request forms. Due to some large adjustments that needed to be made to the master schedule, several unexpected student schedule changes were required. Because of this, we have had to put student-initiated schedule requests on hold through the end of this week.

We anticipate being able to begin processing student requests again starting next week. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure schedules best support student learning.

The deadline to submit a request is September 5th.

Vaccinations & Proof of Residency

Be sure we have your up to date vaccination records. Our nurse has been reaching out to families of students who are missing vaccination records. Students with missing records may have a delay to their start of school. Please come to the school before school starts with your records so your student doesn't face a delay.

All 6th grade students are required to provide proof of residency. Please bring a utility bill (water, gas, or electricity), lease agreement, or a recent tax receipt showing home ownership. Please bring your proof of residency now and before school so your student doesn't have a delay to their start of the school year. It is a requirement to show proof of residency before the start of school.

Student Personal Device Guidelines

During the state’s 2025 legislative session, lawmakers passed and Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law a bill that prohibits students from using personal devices during school hours.

House Bill 1481 takes effect the 2025-2026 school year and requires all Texas school districts to prohibit students from using "personal wireless communication devices," which the law defines as “any wireless electronic communication device, other than a device provided to students by a school for instructional purposes, capable of transmitting and/or receiving data.”

What Devices are Restricted:

  • Personal cell phones

  • Tablets

  • Gaming devices

  • Smart watches

  • Bluetooth headphones or earbuds

  • Fitness trackers that can send or receive messages

  • Personal computers not being used for instructional purposes

  • Two-way radios

  • Pagers

  • Any other device capable of digital communication.

What Devices are Allowed:

Devices purchased and issued by Pflugerville ISD are exempt from this restriction.

What this means for Pflugerville ISD:

  • Students are expected to either leave personal communication devices at home or power them off and store them securely in their backpacks during the day. Device use is not permitted at any time during school hours, which includes passing periods and lunch times.

  • Exceptions will be made for documented medical needs and special education accommodations. (Families who wish to request this exception should work directly with their campus nurse or administrator)

PfISD leaders understand this is a big change for our students and families, and have developed a phased-in approach to help students and families adjust.

During the first nine weeks of school, we’ll focus on education and grace. Students will receive reminders, and staff will take time to explain the new expectations. Each campus will have a designated point person to help guide this transition, and families will receive information through school emails, newsletters, websites, and social media.

During this transition phase, the consequences for cell phone use will be progressive. Once we’ve given students time to learn the expectations, enforcement will shift to immediate and progressive consequences without verbal warnings.

The law is designed to support student learning, reduce distractions, and limit the potential for cyberbullying. To help students adjust, families are encouraged to speak with their students about this change and perhaps consider practicing being device-free at home.

Phase 1: Transition Period (August 13-September 18)

1st Offense: Verbal Reminder

2nd Offense: Device confiscated and returned at the end of the day.

3rd Offense: Device only returned to parent or guardian.

Chronic Issues: Parent meeting and progressive discipline.

Phase 2: Full Implementation (September 19-end of the year)

1st Offense: Device confiscated and returned only to parent/guardian.

2nd Offense: Confiscation and lunch detention.

3rd Offense: Confiscation plus half-day of ISS and a parent meeting.

Chronic Issues: Full day of ISS, behavior plan, or temporary ban of the device on campus.

Science Lab Safety Reminder

Our 6th and 8th grade science classes are currently engaged in their chemistry units, with several exciting lab activities ahead. To ensure safety, students are expected to come prepared each day with closed-toe shoes and a hair tie if their hair reaches their shoulders or longer. Thank you for helping us keep our labs safe and productive learning environments!

As our students continue their work in technology, we ask that they bring wired earbuds or headphones with them to class each day. Having their own set ensures they can fully participate in lessons and projects that incorporate audio components. Thank you for supporting your student in being prepared for success!

Student ID Badges

Beginning next week, we will begin issuing student ID badges. Once distributed, it is essential that all students wear their ID every day, throughout the school day. This is not only a legal requirement, but also an important safety measure to ensure that everyone on campus is easily identifiable.

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe learning environment for all Westview students by reinforcing this expectation with your child.

Restroom Use During Class Time

We ask for your support in helping students value their instructional time. Restroom breaks during class should be limited to emergencies only. Each student is allotted six restroom passes per six weeks for use during class time.

As a reminder, we have increased our passing periods to four minutes to give students more time to use the restroom between classes. Students may also use the restroom during lunch, before school, and after school.

Please encourage your student to make the most of their class time by avoiding unnecessary restroom trips during instructional periods.

Everyone Must Complete a CEP Form

All families are asked to complete a CEP form for this school year. This process is vital to ensuring that our school receives the funding and resources needed to best serve our students.

If you have not yet submitted your form—or if you’re unsure whether you have—please contact us and we will be glad to help. You can reach the main office at (512) 594-2200.

Thank you for helping us support Westview with the resources our students deserve!

As a reminder, restaurant food deliveries are not allowed during the school day. If you would like your child to enjoy a meal from a restaurant, you are welcome to:

  • Sign your student out and enjoy lunch with them off campus, or

  • Join them at our picnic tables in front of the school.

After lunch, students can be signed back in to continue their school day.

Parents are always welcome to bring homemade lunches for their students. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and structured learning environment!
