IRSC Newsletter
May/June 2025
Principal's Message
Hello IRSC families,
It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into the final weeks of the school year! As the weather warms up and summer gets closer, it can be tempting to ease off, but this is the time to dig in and finish strong.
To all our students: keep showing up, keep putting in the work, and stay focused on your goals. Whether you're wrapping up final projects or preparing for exams, every bit of effort you put in now will pay off. Use your class time wisely, ask questions, review your notes, and lean into the support around you.
Let’s bring the same energy and determination into June that we started the year with. The finish line is in sight, so let’s cross it with confidence.
You've got this!

Staffing Announcements
We are thrilled to have Mr. Joe McQuay joining Mr. Coles and Mrs. Bowie in the office as our second Assistant Principal for the 2025/2026 school year. Mr. McQuay has taught senior high Math, PE, and Sports Performance in our building this year, as well as served as our Athletic Director. He is also a dedicated coach. We are very lucky to have him joining our leadership team.
In the fall, we will be welcoming back Mrs. Julie Lapointe (Science, Chem, Bio) from her maternity leave! We will also be welcoming three new teachers to our team for next year as we increase our enrollment. Introducing Mrs. Sasha Taylor (Grade 9 Humanities), Miss Carly Frenette (Social/English), and Mrs. Taylor Wilson (Science/Math) - we are looking forward to everything they will bring to our school!
Student Recognition
Our April shout out winners were Payton G and Aurora R! They won gift cards sponsored by Blackfalds McDonalds and an IRSC water bottle. Students and staff can nominate students for a shout out to recognize them for doing something positive within our school. All students who receive shout outs are named at assembly and then entered into a monthly draw for prizes.
If you would like to sponsor a shout out prize, please let us know!
Yearbook
If your student's IRSC fees are in good standing, you will be able to order a yearbook until Wednesday, June 18th. If there are any outstanding fees, don’t worry! Once those are taken care of, just give it 1-2 business days, and the yearbook form will pop up in your child's Rycor account, ready to order. To order or check on fees, simply log into your Parent Portal and select Student Fees. The yearbook form will be at the bottom of your child's tab if available.
If you run into any issues with the Parent Portal, feel free to reach out to the school office and Mrs. Nikolai will be more than happy to help!
Leaving IRSC or Wolf Creek?
If your child will not be returning to Iron Ridge Secondary Campus for the 2025/2026 school year, please contact the school at irs@wolfcreek.ab.ca to let us know. This information is valuable for preparing for next year.
Additionally, if your child is departing from Wolf Creek School Division, information in departing students’ Google accounts (Drive, Gmail) will be deleted in September of 2025. Please check THIS LINK for helpful hints/procedures to ensure you have the files/documents that you need before your account is disabled
It is critical that students download and copy any information from their WCPS accounts to a personal account BEFORE their last day of enrollment with us. Wolf Creek Tech Department will not be able to recover any student data once it has been deleted.
