September 2025

Dear families,

My name is Ms. Piper and I am your student's world language teacher. I live in Rye with my husband and three children. I am so proud to be part of this wonderful community. We are one of the only public schools in the area that offers both Spanish and French to all students grades pre-Kindergarten through fourth grade. This is such a gift to our students that provides the advantage to expand their global perspective, vocabulary and communication skills.

At Rye Elementary School all students spend the first part of the year learning Spanish. The second part of the school year is devoted to French. We meet once a week for forty-five minutes. Our Spanish and French lessons involve games, music, projects, stories, and more.We also provide students with a world language health course, which is an additional weekly thirty minute opportunity to further their learning in Spanish and French.

If you have any questions, concerns, comments, or ideas to share with me regarding your student and our class, please do not hesitate to contact me. The best way to contact me is via email. My email is cpiper@sau50.org. I will be in touch with you throughout the school year through emails home. I am also happy to speak with you by phone or conference with you in person. These phone calls and/or meetings are best scheduled via email to ensure a quiet time to talk.

I look forward to speaking with you vis-à-vis at our Open House on October 9th. Please be sure to stop by the world language classroom during this fun and informative evening!

This year will be one of tremendous growth in your student's ability to communicate and interpret both Spanish and French! I look forward to working with your child. ¡Gracias! Merci!

Sincerely,

Señora/Madame Piper

Hi RES Families!

I’m excited to share that I will have a school counseling intern working with me this year! Grace Perron is completing her graduate degree at SNHU for Child Psychology with a focus on Child Development. Grace begins next week and will be learning alongside me throughout the 2025-2026 school year. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to support the next generation of counselors (🙃that makes me sound old!), AND for our students to benefit from Grace’s fresh ideas and energy.

Grace reached out to me this summer and I have enjoyed getting to know her a little over these last several weeks. She has worked with children and families in the PreSchool setting, as well as for some Seacoast families as a nanny over the years. Grace is newly engaged and planning a wedding ❤️while also managing her school work, working at a local restaurant, and trying to find time to go on walks and relax at the beach! She is enthusiastic and very motivated about the idea of learning from our amazing staff here at RES, and I’m confident she will win the hearts of the kids very quickly.

Grace will be involved in a number of things, including classroom lessons, small groups, and individual student support. Please know that I will continue to oversee all counseling support, and your child’s well-being will remain my top priority. Part of my role as her supervisor will be to impart knowledge about confidentiality and the professional responsibilities of a school counselor. I am committed to this and to my proven track record of transparency and communication with the Rye families.

I’m excited about this opportunity for Grace to learn in a supportive and committed community like Rye. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to me directly.

Warmly,

Lori Arsenault, RES School Counselor

Hello!

I am interested in spreading the word about the Special Olympics. I have been involved with the Special Olympics with my children for many years. Students as young as 8 years old can participate in Special Olympic events. Students with an IEP can participate as athletes and those who do not have an IEP can participate as partners (helpers).

SO provides a great opportunity for growth and development for all people. The current sport for SO is bowling. There is a local group who practice at the Bowl - O - Rama in Portsmouth. To find out more about Special Olympics in the Seacoast Area reach out to Bryan Rogers at brogers@sau52.org or 603-498-2409.

Check out the website at Special Olympics NH today! Volunteers are always needed! For general information please feel free to reach out to me as well at hwarden@sau50.org.

Safety Supporters

Members of the Rye police and fire departments were the stars of our recent assembly in which we highlighted some of the important safety visuals and rules in our school. This opportunity also allowed our students to become more familiar with some of the safety supporters in our community. We are so thankful for their continuous support and their presence!

A Book in the Woods

Students in all Second Grade classes went out to the woods on Friday afternoon and up into the "big" treehouse. They read aloud the book A Kids Book About Belonging by Kevin Carroll. The book emphasizes that the first step to belonging is to "belong to yourself", to be true to you, and "be you". Second Graders have been working hard to build community and this was just another step in that direction.

Dot Day!

Dot Day was on Monday, September 15 , which recognizes the Peter H. Reynolds book, The Dot, a story about being brave and making your mark! In art class, students created their own dots inspired by artist Wassily Kandinsky, using tempera paints to “make their mark.”
