Sardis Spirit Days
Halloween Spirit Day (Oct 30) π
Get ready for a spooktacular Halloween Spirit Day! Students and staff are invited to wear their Halloween costumes or festive orange and black clothing. Let's celebrate with creativity, fun, and school spirit. Some classes will participate in a school wide parade to share their costumes. We can't wait to see everyone's boo-tiful costumes!
Celebrating Halloween with Kindness
Halloween is just around the corner and we ask that costumes are respectful, follow dress codes, and do not promote violence, sexism, racism, or appropriation of culture.
Here are some guidelines to consider when selecting costumes that will be worn at school:
- Students need to be identifiable and visible to ensure safety. Face paint is welcome; full face masks should be left at home or only worn during the costume parade.
- Costumes that are sexual in nature or employ questionable props are not appropriate for a school setting.
- It is encouraged that students do not bring props as they may be forgotten at school and not accessible for Halloween night.
- Costumes that depict violence, drugs, or alcohol are not appropriate. Fake weapons should be left at home and saved for Halloween night.
- Letβs choose fun and creative costumes that donβt imitate or stereotype races, cultures, genders, heritage, or religions. Costumes that may offend or reinforce harmful stereotypes are not allowed.
If there is a chance your child will get uncomfortable in their costume during the day, you may wish to have them bring a change of clothes to put on later in the day.
Thank you for helping make Halloween at school a fun day for all.
Happy Halloween!
Diwali Celebration (Nov 9) πͺ
Join us as we celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights! This special day is a time to learn about and recognize the rich cultural traditions of many families in our community. Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and kindness over negativity. Celebrate the Festival of Lights by wearing bright, colourful clothing or festive traditional attire. Let's light up our school with vibrant colours and joy!
Rock Your Mocs (Nov 13) π§‘πͺΆ
Join us as we celebrate Rock Your Mocs Day by wearing your moccasins or other Indigenous-inspired attire. This special day is an opportunity to recognize and honour Indigenous cultures, traditions, and the beautiful artistry of moccasin making. Let's come together to celebrate diversity, show respect, and learn about the rich heritage of Indigenous peoples in our community and across Canada. Wear your mocs with pride and help us "rock" this meaningful spirit day!
Remembrance Day photos
For this yearβs Remembrance Day Assembly, we would like to honour family members and loved ones who have served by including their photo in a slideshow presentation. If you would like to participate, please email a digital photo to Mr. Moore. When submitting a photo, please include the individualβs name and, if possible, the years they served. Thank you
πΈ Scenes From Last Week
Coed Soccer Team
Our Sardis Coed Soccer Team has been showing great teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit this season. Whether at practices or games, players have worked hard, supported one another, and represented our school with pride. The team cheer before each game is a reminder that success comes from working together and giving your best effort. Way to go, Skyhawks! β½π¦
Lost and found
Have you checked the Lost and Found lately? Our collection of unclaimed clothing is growing! If your child is missing a jacket, sweater, or other item, please take a moment to have them stop by and have a look. Items will be out at the front of the school until Wednesday. Adding your childβs name to their belongings is the best way to help lost items find their way back home.
Character Trait of the Month
I am Grateful
Octoberβs character trait is gratitude. Throughout the month, we will be encouraging students to recognize and appreciate the people, experiences, and opportunities that make a positive difference in their lives. Practising gratitude helps build kindness, positive relationships, and a stronger school community. ππ§‘
Sardis Sports
π€Έπ»ββοΈ Obstacle Course (Grades K-5)
Mrs. Cavanagh will be running the always-popular Ninja Course in the gym starting Monday! This exciting activity is a student favourite and includes plenty of climbing, balancing, and agility challenges. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and proper athletic footwear on their gym day to help them participate safely and successfully. We know they'll have a great time testing their skills and conquering the course!
