Dear Parents and Families,

We are having an incredible time today celebrating Global School Play Day! It is wonderful to watch our students engage in unstructured play, allowing them to collaborate, problem-solve, and interact in a positive, creative environment.

The fun doesn’t stop there! To help celebrate Super Bowl weekend, we are inviting all students to wear their favorite sports outfit or jersey this Friday, February 6, 2026. Whether they are cheering for a specific team or just love their favorite sport, we look forward to seeing their team spirit!

Thank you for your continued support in making school a fun place to learn and grow.

Message from Winthrop School Nurse

Dear Winthrop Families,

I am still seeing scattered cases of viral illness- typically presenting with cough, sore throat, and fatigue. The health room has been quieter this week (knock on wood!). Great job to everyone for washing their hands and helping to prevent the spread of germs!

Thank you so much for continuing to keep your children home from school when they are ill. This includes not only fevers, but also deep/uncontrollable coughing, diarrhea/vomiting, rash of unknown origin, and severe sore throat and/or headache. Please remember to use the Dismissal Manager or call the school to let us know your child will be absent. It is always helpful to send in a doctor's note if your child was seen. Students may return when they are fever free for 24 hours without medication and generally feeling better.

I am still in search of donations! We are in need of boys size pants, and new/unused underwear for boys/girls in all sizes! Thanks so much for considering 🙂

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Stay healthy!

GREEN TEAM UPDATE

No Idling - It's the Law!

Did you know that MA state law limits idling to five minutes or less? Idling is when your vehicle's engine is on, but you are not actively driving. Let's all do our part to keep our air clean and reduce idling at Winthrop! Here's how you can help:

Drop-off: Turn off your engine when stopped/in park for more than 10 seconds.

Pick-up: Don't arrive at dismissal super duper early!! Instead, arrive for pick-up at the Connector once students have been dismissed and are on the front lawn. Or, park your vehicle in a parking spot and turn off your engine if students have not been dismissed; walk to pick-up your child(ren) on the front lawn. Only cars actively driving through the connector should have their engines on.

By reducing idling, you will:

Protect students, school staff, and drivers from harmful exhaust fumes

Reduce air pollutants that contribute to smog and climate change

Reduce fuel consumption

Reduce engine wear and tear

Save money on fuel and engine repairs

To learn more, check out this 2 minute, multilingual video about the impact of idling. Also, see the attached pamphlet from the Ipswich Police Department.
