Thanksgiving Break is Upon Us.....almost 🙂

Hello Falcon Families:

This week is our last week before Thanksgiving break....it seems just like yesterday we were barely starting October. As we close out this week, this will be the end of the 6-weeks progress reports. Teachers will take grades this week and then grades will be due for the progress reports on Monday, December 1st. When we return from Thanksgiving break we will have 3 weeks to close out the semester. It will be fast and furious, so please make sure you are checking your student's grades and contacting teachers if needed.

Please take a moment to read through the information below. We appreciate all your support, and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,

Nicole Rosas-Saunders, Principal

“STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is a method of hands-on teaching and learning where students learn to apply academic content by creatively solving real-world problems with innovative design-based thinking to prepare students for future career opportunities.”

What does STEM look like at Kirby STEM Academy?

At Kirby STEM academy we are focused on providing our students opportunities to develop the following strong STEM Fluency skills:

- Communication

- Collaboration

- Critical/Creative Thinking

- Productive Struggle

At the conclusion of their 6th and 7th grade years, student will be completing a grade level project tied to a real-world scenario for the greater San Antonio area.

7th grade Social Studies Tax Poems

The students in Mrs. Thompson's Social Studies class created poems.

.Students answered a variety of questions about the word "Taxes".

examples: 1. what's the color? what's it smell like? What makes it happy or angry? Who's it's worst enemy?

What is underlined is the words/phrases they contributed by answering the questions.
Then we put it in a generator to make a poem. The next day in their small groups they read the other classes' poems and voted in their small groups after a short turn and talk about them for which was the best.
