Mustang Update

We are back from Spring Break and ready to take on the 4th Nine Weeks! This always proves to be a very busy time of the year with track & field meets, golf meets and baseball and softball games. We also start getting into awards night, athletic banquet, and end-of-year banquets and recognition nights for our students! Pay close attention to our calendar and help us celebrate another successful year at Valley Heights! This grading period is also the one that passes by the quickest.

Speaking of spring activities, the Class of 2025 were given their caps and gowns this week, so parents please be looking for those to arrive at your homes. We still have a lot to accomplish to put the finishing touches on the 2024-2025 school year so hang on!

We want to say a big word of thanks to the Jock’s Bar in Waterville. The hosted a 5K Run in conjunction with the St. Patrick’s Day festivities and donated $1000 from their proceeds to our Student Council for future projects. We appreciate them thinking of us and helping us with future projects for our students.

Congratulations to Coach Jordan Broxterman who was named a finalist for the 2025 2A Girls’ Coach of the Year by Sports in Kansas. This is quite the accomplishment and we wish him well in the selection process. Knowing Coach Broxterman he will quickly deflect the honor of this nomination to his assistant coaches and former and current players. We would like to congratulate all of these people as well. Great job everyone! Ava Smith was also nominated for Sport in Kansas 2A Girls Player of the Year! We would like to wish Coach Broxterman and Ava well as the ballots are tallied.

Baseball and softball seasons are underway. The teams travelled to Centralia for double headers on Thursday, March 28th! Both squads lost their initial two games of the season but they also found out more about their strengths and their areas that needed more work! The ladies will travel to Blue Valley on Monday, the 31st and the boys will be playing Blue Valley in Waterville on the same day. Game time is 4:30 pm!

Valley Heights hosted the TVL Music contest on Wednesday, March 26th and the staff and students did a fantastic job with the event. Ms. Brooklyn Coleman and Mrs. Kim Oatney are to be commended for putting on an event that the Valley Heights community can be proud of. On the performance side of things our band earned the highest marks possible from the two judges to earn a I rating! Great job staff and students. We are proud of your efforts.

We will be hosting the TVL Art Contest on Thursday, April 6th. Unlike the Music Contest, we will be having classes that day. All art activities will be held in the gym, art room and ag. classroom. Mrs. Miller has been coordinating this event for us and once again our goal is to make a great impression on our guests. The gym will be open for public viewing of the art work from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm that day so come on out and see what the TVL has been up to in their art classes!

Parents – we are getting ready to start the Kansas State Assessments! We will be kicking things off on April 2nd and 3rd with our 8th grade science students. April 4th will be the back-up day for students who are absent or are out with an activity. How can you help? Visit with your child about getting a good night’s sleep and make sure their Chromebook is fully charged. We want to emphasize that students need to be focused and give every assessment their best effort! We will be sending out reminders on Thrillshare to keep everyone informed about testing dates!

Have a great week and Let’s go Mustangs!
