Updates from Mr. Provost
Angell Families,
We had a fantastic first week of school, and our students have already settled into their daily routines. They are practicing expectations with their teachers, enjoying their specials classes, and having fun at recess. Our lunch routine—getting hot lunches from the Innovation Lab and eating in the classrooms—has gone remarkably smoothly. A huge shout-out to all the parents who volunteered to help during lunch, as well as our 5th-grade leaders, who have been assisting our TK and Kindergarten students with getting their food and lining up after recess. The latest lunch menu is linked above. Stay tuned for updates and additions to our lunch menu.
Looking ahead, we will host our first Respect Circle and School Spirit Day on Tuesday, September 1st. During our Respect Circle assemblies, the entire school gathers in the gym to celebrate students who demonstrate positive strategies. Each classroom teacher will recognize one student, and Mrs. Chudler will share valuable social-emotional and Leader in Me strategies. We encourage everyone to wear their Angell Elementary gear or school colors (blue and white) to show their spirit!’
I will be holding my first Angell Community Chat in the Media Center on Thursday, September 10th right after morning line-up. This is an opportunity for families to chat, ask questions, and connect with me.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out regarding all things Angell Elementary. We can connect in person or electronically. My email is matthew.provost@berkleyschools.org (or you can reply to this newsletter), and my office number is 248-837-8501.

Angell Construction Update - Aug 28
Playground
- Multiple playground structures have been placed and anchored in the ground this week. This includes the rocket ship, two jungle gyms (with slides), swingsets, and monkey bars. The next part of this process will include a lot of site activity with additional leveling and setting, mulch installation, and final concrete anchoring. During the process of installation, the crew has replaced two of our slides and is donating new benches to our site. We are grateful for their generosity!
Gym
- The paint on the floor has dried and cured. PE classes, breakfast, and Kids’ Zone are now using the gym. The process of installing our new basketball backboards has started. Additional time is needed to finish the installation and is in the process of being scheduled and coordinated with gym finishes across the District. Work is most likely to be scheduled for upcoming student days off. If contractors must return during the school day, I will let our families know.
POD
- New furniture has been installed, and staff has moved to their new office spaces. Ms. Siegel, Mrs. Chudler, Ms. Nolan, and Mrs. Greager all have office space in the new Pod area. In addition, there is a meeting place for families, staff, and small groups.
Multi-Purpose Addition
- Windows have been installed along the new hallway to the addition. Electrical and HVAC crews were working in our new kitchen and in corridors this week. The concrete pads around the new addition have also been poured and cured.
The District’s eNewsletter, Berkley Beat, has the August Bond Update in it this week and it includes many photos of Angell construction. Be sure to check that out, too.

Angell Student Council Update
This year, Student Council will be for select 5th grade students only. Due to our current lunch schedules and the ongoing construction in our building, we have had to make some adjustments to how Student Council can meet and operate. We are hopeful that next year we will be able to return to our traditional model of including both 4th and 5th grade students. We’re looking forward to another great year of student leadership and service! Information will be given to interested 5th graders next week.
Thanks!
