Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our wonderful parents and families. Your continued support, encouragement, and involvement play such an important role in our school community. We are truly thankful for your partnership in helping our students learn, grow, and thrive each day. This season reminds us of the power of gratitude, kindness, and togetherness, and we look forward to sharing that spirit with you. From all of us at Dr. Green Elementary we wish you and your family a joyful and restful Thanksgiving filled with love and appreciation.
We would like to celebrate and honor our Veterans and their families. Thank you for all you do for our country!
We appreciate our PTA for their support and making Dr. Green a beautiful school for our students. PTA sponsored a fieldtrip for all grade levels to the La Union Maze, the students who already attended had a blast.
Thank you families for bringing your children to our Reading Night, teachers hosted fun reading activities. Additionally, the Monster Mash Dance was a success, all thanks to you!
UPCOMING EVENTS:
- After-school clubs will begin on Wednesday, November 5., and will continue on November 12 and 19. In December these will be on the 3,10, and 17. The clubs will be from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Afterschool clubs are optional but fun for our students. All students received a permission slip last Thursday, please turn it in before 4:00 pm on Monday.
- NO SCHOOL on November 11th in honor of our Veterans. Please send your children to school the day before on Monday, November 10th. It is important that they do not skip this day. We appreciate your understanding.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making Dr. Green a great school to be. Please know that I foster an open-door policy for continuous communication. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with ideas, suggestions or any concerns you may have.
Respectfully,
Guadalupe Pineda

Interventionist Mrs. Sims
Dear Families,
As your child’s Reading and Math Interventionist, I want to share a few updates and tips to support learning at home!
All students have taken the STAAR interim in Reading and Math. Please discuss the results with your child’s teacher. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Intervention will be provided for students that scored “did not meet” in Reading or Math.
Please continue to have your child read every day for at least 20 minutes. This really helps with fluency development. Try to find books that your child is interested in. This helps make reading a fun activity. Ask questions like “What happened first?” or “Why do you think the character did that?”. Make reading a fun family activity. The public library is a great place to get wonderful books that the whole family can enjoy.
Math Focus: In math, we’re reinforcing number sense and problem-solving strategies. Students are learning to:
Break numbers apart (decompose) to make math easier
Use visual models like number lines and ten frames
Talk through their thinking to build understanding
Try these at home:
Play simple math games like “Guess My Number” or “Roll & Add”
Practice skip counting while walking or driving
Use everyday situations (like cooking or shopping) to talk about numbers
Practice math flashcards in areas like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
💬 Let’s Stay Connected! If you have questions or want ideas tailored to your child, feel free to reach out. I’m here to support you and your child every step of the way!
Warmly,
Lindsey Sims

Parents, please send headphones with your child if you haven’t done so already as soon as possible. Students have access to several programs to support reading and math that require headphones.

The Core Essential Value for November is:
Trust - Putting your confidence in someone you can depend on.
SEE IT:
Read the following quotes about trust and have each family member pick their favorite. Tell
each other why it is your favorite and what it means to you.
“To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved.” — George MacDonald
“Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most important ingredient in effective communication. It’s
the foundation of healthy relationships.” — Stephen Covey
“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” — William Shakespeare
“A healthy relationship is built on unwavering trust.” — Unknown
“Trust is the fruit of a relationship in which you know you are loved.” — Joyce Brothers
“Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important
matters.” — Albert Einstein
“Trust, but verify.” — Ronald Reagan
“Trust has to be earned, and should come only after the passage of time.” — Arthur Ashe
“Consistency is the true foundation of trust.” — Roy T. Bennett
BE IT:
As a family, create a quote about trust. Decide why it is important, how it supports the family,
how it improves your life and others’ lives, and the positive impact it could have on the
world. Once you have a quote that summarizes the importance of trust, write it on a poster
and hang it where the whole family can read it every day. Look for ways your family can build
trust with each other and become people others can trust.
